Or... you can dish out the big $$$ for one of those new blazing fast speed bows and eliminate the need for the rangefinder out to 35 or 40 yards.

I would spend the money on a new bow IF you are not satisfied with what you have. You can always improve your assessment of distances with practice.
I'm happy with what I have, but it's always fun to get shoot new bows - the same applies with guns too. And besides you can never have too many of either

I would argue however, that while practice will make you a much better shot, people are notoriously horrible estimators of distance - there are of course exceptions to this, but as whole runs true. And nothing can beat actual data when it comes to knowing distances.

I was never good at it until I started picking things out as I walked and guesstimating the distance, then stepping it off as I kept walking. Walking thru the parking lot, in the woods, anywhere. Also, practicing from treestand height was a huge help.

So does anyone have recommendations on a fairly inexpensive rangefinder? I already know where I would get any of the bows I'm looking at and how much those will run from those shops, but I haven't got a clue on rangefinders!

I BOUGHT TWO OFF EBAY...SAVE ALOT OF MONEY....IMHO...THE RANGE FINDERS WITH ARC OR SIMILIAR OPTIONS ARE NOT THAT IMPORTANT, UNLESS YOUR HUNTING VERTICAL CLIFFS....FOR MOST BOW APPS IT'S ONLY A DIFFERENCE OF INCHES....USE YOUR MONEY WISELY.

The Bushnell Scout is a fairly inexpensive rangefinder and seems to work very well at archery distances. Personally, I need a rangefinder. Very poor depth perception.

I was leaning towards ebay if I go with a rangefinder. And I didn't think that the ARC stuff was terribly important with a bow at "normal" ranges and "normal" terrain.

Roskoe: Thanks for the tip, that was one I looked at a little bit today before class. Seems like a decent unit and was reasonably priced.

If your only going to use it at short range distances (150yds) and in, go with the bushnell sport for 150 bucks...AND get a bow.

http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?id=0046734712775a&navCount=1&podI d=0046734&parentId=cat20756&masterpathid=& amp;navAction=jump&cmCat=MainCatcat602006-cat20756&catalogCode=QX&rid=&parentTyp e=index&indexId=cat20756&hasJS=true

If you want a higher dollar range finder that is easier to use at longer ranges for rifle hunting and hold off on the bow for a while, id reccomend the Scout model...

http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=MainCatcat602006-cat20756-cat20756-cat20756-cat20756-cat20756-cat20756&id=0046733712812a&navCount=11&amp ;podId=0046733&parentId=cat20756&masterpat hid=&navAction=push&catalogCode=IJ&rid =&parentType=index&indexId=cat20756&ha sJS=true

I have the Bushnell Scout before they came out with the ARC technology, and I love it. The scout is small enough to fit in shirt pocket, easy to use, and works rather well. I ranged a cedar at 500+ just for fun. For my applications while hunting, rifle, shotgun, and bow, This is more than Ill ever need. I can range deer at 250, which is as far as Ive ever tried.

Thanks for the tips. The Sport does look like a real good deal. I was reading the reviews and there were very few poor comments made...

A range finder is a very vital piece of my equipment. Right behind the Bow, Arrows, and Broadheads.
