yes magicman i live close to mellen, and buttonbuck i meant last years fawn, The only reason why i carry a gun with me now is my parents want me to, last year i got surrounded twice by wolves and a few weeks ago my friends dad was walking and a coyote started chasing him so thats the only reason why i do carry one.

That is one ballsy coyote. You could probably kick a single yote off of you. Surrounded by wolves twice? That must have shaken you up.

As far as what you did, if I were in your position I would have done the same thing. No sense in letting the thing suffer any longer than necessary.

If it were me, I wouldn't have come on here and told everyone what I did .... but I would have put it out of it's misery ..... ONLY because there was ZERO chance of survival ...

I honestly dont know what I would have done. Predators have been killing the weak for millions of years. Is it the ethical thing to do?.......yes. Is it against the law?........yes. Fine line here. Do you settle your conscience and shoot the fawn or do you let nature take its course? In my mind I would have tried to do the right thing, but honestly what is the right thing here. If there is a disagreement on what the right thing is, then there is no right answer. You did what you felt was right. Dont beat yourself up about it and dont feel down on yourself for others are saying. The one for sure thing you did wrong was post it here. Next time be hypothetical.............;)

Me and a buddy were entering the woodsabout an hour beforesun up many years back when we heard this god awful scream cry, whatever. It actually scared us a little because we never heard such a noise and it was pretty damn dark. Anyway we continued onto find the source of the noise. When we did we came upon a fawn in a creek bedwith a dog eating out the fawn between it's back legs. The scream was the fawn crying out in pain or fear or whatever. The fawn laid there for a few minutes while we contemplated what to do. We were bowhunting and neither of us felt good about the idea of putting an arrow through this fawn to end it's misery.Imagine that, 2 bowhunters hunting deer and having one at our feet and not wanting to shoot it. You think PETA would understand that?While standing there discussing it the fawn got up and wobbled down the creek to our amazement. The deer had it's crotch eaten away for the most part and had stuff hanging out from between it's legs and still managed after a few moments to get itself up and amber off very slowly. These animals are very tough so before I took any action I would watch the situation for a little bit and see what develops. If I know I'm within easy response time from law enforcement I would call them. If the situation didn't improve and I was in a remote area where it would take law enforcement a very long time to respond I would dispatch the animalby whatever means was availableand would do the job quickly.

I have tried to make sense of the direction our nation is heading. The one thing that causes the greatest amount of concern to me is the loss of personal freedom. The question is why is it slipping, more like racing away? There must be a cause.
I believe this in a nut shell is the cause. The law an absolute has been replaced by ethics and emotion. If some feel something is best then that is the determining action.
By supporting ethics over law you open the gate for anything that the majority feels is ethically right, the end of hunting is one of them. In the mind of many it is unethical to hunt and kill an animal. The law is what keeps tyranny at bay. If you violate the law the door is flung wide open for corruption to move in using feelings and fear to control us. Make no mistake; the law protectsus from the dictator. Give the dictator mindset the authority to ruleus based on emotion/ethics and freedom is dead.
It’s one thing to do wrong; it’s another to call a wrong, right. The vast majority of the respondents to this thread have confirmed what I already believe, freedom is dying. It is desperately gasping for breath and few are aware of it. It is being sacrificed on the altar of feelings.
