i jus cant honestly see someone gettin in trouble for puttin an animal out of it misery in the middle of the woods... but if u say its happened then i cant argue with ya.... i guess my point was its kinda sad when thats the first thing that comes to a persons mind... it would be the last thing i would think of if i came across that situation....to each is his own

Virginiashadow, don't get me wrong...I agree with shooting a suffering animal, wether it be in season or not, as long as you are sure that the deer will not survive otherwise. It is the right thing to do, regardless of the law. But I have read things some guys have wrote on here about shooting a deer that was limping...a deer that may very well have survived had it been left alone.

It's hard to watch sometimes, but it is not our place to decide when these animals die unless we have a tag in our pocket. If, however, there is no chance that the deer will live, I feel like I have the resposibility to ease it's pain. Trust me, I have just as much of a heart as yourself.....

agreed, I once saw a show with a similar incident, and the guy called dnr to get a permit etc.....maybe because it was a show.....but I think you did what most would do.

A deer once got hit by a car, ran into our back yard and bedded down. I think he had 3/4 broken legs, and didnt even run when we walked out to him. We called the local sheriff and he said put it down, so I did, turned out it was a small buck that had just shed it's antlers.

Think about it. If the DNR let us make those calls and put down wounded animals some jerk would use that as an excuse to cover up a poaching attempt. I believe that is why the law is the way it is. Its sad but 99.9%+ of all laws are written for the few who are morons.

You obviously have never been on the wrong side of the law, and been innocent. I can look at it and walk away. They have the authority to do it, I do not, it's not my fault. Something will eat it soon enough.

He should have been more interested in what did it and if it was sizing him up. Or he could have taken pics of it and post them all over the net showing people just what wolves do to poor innocent creatures. These wolf loving people are the ones at fault. I do believe there only reason for loving the wolf and other predators so much is just to spite hunters and habor a deep seated desire to see the hunter "get his" at the teeth end of one of these rippen and tearing dogs.

If you really have such asoft heart, bundle it up and rush it off to a vet. Legs can be mended and guts put back, or are you a vet that can tell when an animal is past saving, one that, is so baddly needed in this deer deprived area.

Don't give me any crap about being heartless. Your encouraging this kid to take the law into his own hands. Bound to get him into trouble. There are no exceptions in the regs.
