Default Owning your own shop?

I know there are some of you on here that own your own archery/outdoor shop.
This is a dream of mine after I finish college which hopefully is 2011-2012.
Ive been talking to my dad and it seems doable.

What does it take todo it? (so to speak)

A viable market.
Adequate investment capitol.
Business knowledge (booking keeping, inventory/cash flow management...)
Technical skill.
An appreciation for your customers.

If you're missing any of those it's going to be a rough road.

4 months out of the year will pretty much make or break you in this business unless you are going to sell something in your shop that is popular in the off season. August and September you will be running around with your head cut off if you are in an area that will generate lots of business for you. Also think about the fact that some days you may want to be hunting instead of working the counter. Have some help that will work when you want to be off.

I have been around the business aspect of archerylong enough that I wouldn't ever plan to start up a shop unless I didn't need an income.
