Make sure you buy the unmedicated trace minerals, not the medicated variety.[/align]

I am new to this mineral thing too. When you mix all of hte things together, will you end up with a powder then? And idf so, do you just dump it on top of the ground, or do you mix it into the soil?

You want to buy each in the granulated state.. Do not buy them in compressed block form.

You want to dig a hole 3 feet in diameter and 8 inches deep.... Mix the minerals in the 2 parts trace minerals (100 pounds), 1 part di-cal phosphate (50 pounds)and 1 part salt (50 pounds).

You want to dump the minerals 2:1:1 into the hole you just dug and mix all of the dirt you dug out into the mixture as well. Make sure the minerals and dirt are mixed together good.

That's all there is to it.

And it doesn't matter what that 2:1:1 is...it can be a coffee can, 5 gallon bucket, bag....whatever.....just as long as it's 2 part trace, 1 part di-cal phosphate, and 1 part rock salt.

This time of year they will really tear those things up. We had a couple last year that by mid-july were just big mud holes.

Is there any reason the granulated form is better than blocks?

Yes, most blocks made for whitetail are like 50-80% salt... Very little minerals and are expensive.. As for the blocks you buy from co ops.. The are formulated for livestock consumption not deer.

Buying them in bag form allows you to mix it with the proper minerals that are beneficial to the whitetail rather than just using cattle supplements.

I do not mix anything together. I put out about 3 bags of purerock salt of 50 lbseach at 3 locations each year. It is a good way to inventory your herd through the summer. The salt lick afair is over by about the middle of Sept.

$40 at my local co-op will get you everything you need for 200 pounds.
