Ok, gas prices are starting to affect my hunting

With gas prices at $3.65 for 87 octane, it is now starting to impact whether I hunt or not. My truck is nearing $90 to fill up and a typical round trip to where I hunt is around $12-$15....a couple of hunts a week and I am spending around $120 a month just on driving to hunt. That is friggin crazy. I know for some of you guys $15 is a drop in the bucket, but for a local government employee such as myself, and my wife being a teacher, this is getting tough! Anyone else having any problems in this regard?

Brett, i feel your pain. I am in the same boat as you. I question every single trip I take anymore with gas prices like this. it is insane.

I feel ya man I never sat at home so much! Just imagine if gas prices were $1 a gal. I think the economy would pick up! Does it take a rocket scientist to figure out why people are not out spending money? Cnat afford to drive anymore![:@]Im starting to get pissed off at the whole deal!

Yep. I dunno what they're trying to prove or do to us, but it's killin me. What's funny is it is all over the news, but the politicians are sure being tight lipped about it. I mean, not a friggin word. There seems to be no end in sight, and nobody important seems to give a damn.

Prices have not only limited my hunting, but it's limited everything I do. We stay home a lot more than we used to, and that alone is affecting our mood. I like to get out and do things, not be trapped at home all the time.

Man, that is nothing..........

My Subaru needs 93 octane. Locally it's running anywhere from 4.05 to 4.12 a gallon. The trip to my camp is 225 miles each way........between my turkey hunting and driving to an IBO World qualifier event this weekend I will put probably 600 miles on the car. It's going to cost me roughly $90 just this weekend alone in gas.[:@][&:]

Here is my suggestion.

Using a pickup as an everyday car is about done for most of us. Buy a little junker car that gets 30+ miles to the galllon.

I spend about 35.00 bucks a week for gas, and I car pool. They money I save goes into a "Gas" fund for trips. Set a budget for Gas for everyday use. Trim that amount in order to start this gas fund.

I budget 70.00 dollars a week for Gas, I am currently using around 35.00 dollars the rest goes in my Gas fund, yeah I have a Gas fund[&:]

I am along the lines of Germ.

Truck is parked until I need it to tow the camper. I'm driving a little run around car that gets 30-32 mpg. I streamline trips out and about to reduce how much I need to drive. Not really in a position to carpool at the moment.

Germ I have thought about getting a junker car, but even dishing out $500 for a crap car is still risky around here as food prices are starting to rise as well. I just feel kind of trapped right now. I even thought about not taking my kids fishing the other day but I just did anyway, just didn't get anything for myself over the weekend which is no biggie.

the other day i filled up and it was 100 dollars! it would have been more but thats as much as a gas station will allow you to pay at the pump! its so friggin crazy, this is seriously what is making the economy drop and it could hurt our nation! why cant them stinking smart scientists create a car that runs off something cheap........its 160 mile round trip to our farm its CRAZY!
