Default If you were me....

What would you do if you have stray dogs on your hunting property? I have been settingup for my first bird this year by bow. For the last two times i was able to call in some Toms but as it comes down for a shot, each day they have been spooked by a dog (not hunting dog). My trail cam has taken several pictures of it, and I included it in a printed out paper that I put in a dozen mailboxes.

It is a good 3/4 mile to the nearest home, which is next to 900 hunted acres. I called the ranger, his first question was if the land is posted. My answer was yes, so he advised me to put the flyer I printed up and put in everyones mailbox.

On Saturday I had a Tom come out at about 50 yrds, and without a shot I had to let him go because the dog came running by and chased the bird.

Any opinions? Im shooting my bow, so 50 yrd shotsis out of the question for a bird, but that dang dog is giving me the best target!

I would try the flyer route first and if you didn't get any results that way - any oppurtunity to trap them - I am no fan of shooting dogs even stray ones - but if it is the last option - let er rip

I am all for shooting stray dogs, especially if they interfere with my hunt. With that said, I would use a rifle instead of the bow, just my opinion.

Do you have a dog warden in your area? Maybe contact him.

Don't tell anyone what you plan to do being you know what you want to do. Nobody can acuse you of anything then. What they don't know won't hurt them!! Fix the problem.

I am a real dog lover, but I wouldn't have a problem with you smokin' the dog in this situation. I have had numerous occasions where dogs have threatened my on our farm either trying to breed with one of our dogs or trying to get food. A one time occurence is one thing, but a routinely unattended dog is another.
