Rut is great to see alot of bucks, but IMO calls, etc.....late OCT pre rut is when the time to strike is! I still hunt the rut etc.....but pre rut is the time that if I only had a few days to hunt the entire year is when I would be in my stand.

Hey Steve,
Because I hunt so far from home I usually wait until the end of Oct. (around the 25th) then hit it hard right thru the end of the month. My past experience has showed me thebest times are Nov 3-8 and 12- 17. That time in between is peak breeding time. It can be the best time or the absolute worst.

This is a tough one...
I like The first week of bow because the big boys are feedings like does...Sometimes I can put a stalk on them in the beat fields while they feed for the first few hours in the AM.
Althought Nov. 1st is hot...I have a hard time hunting rutting bucks because the one area I hunt in the thumb is just weekend hunts...lots of cahos at deer camp during this time...the little ones are old enough to hunt now and things get a little squirrly...so sometimes I may take them out...
Nov. 15th - Opening day of gun is hot and I can sometimes score on a 17 incher if I hunt all day.
The spots I hunt in Livingston county are small acre areas and booners are uncommon because of the cover in my area...

I hunt the early season and try to put some meat in the frezzer or a Buck if its big enough. But I save most of my days for the Last week of Archery season which most of the time is the 2nd week of November.

Nov. 9th every year is the date that I have seen the biggest bucks of the season on for the past three years on my farm. Maybe its coincidence but that is the day that I will not miss by being away at school.
