Default Hunting is frustrating.....and then.....

If you saw my trials witht he cows while turkey hunting yesterday.....it brought to mind something.

I got a little ticked off...thinking they were ruining my hunt. I had committed to sitting out there for 4 hours of my day. When the sun started setting.....and the donkeys were sounding off......I looked out at the beautiful scenery and was laughing right there by myself.

How many people get to have an evening like that? I didn't see or hear a turkey.....but .....well.....you know.

I am guilty of sometimes getting caught up in the "destination" instead of the "journey". It's one reason I am thinking of going traditional "more" in the future (but this wasn't about that).

Soak it in...........

While hunting it sure is easy to get distracted and let the little things bother you. Then I remember I'm out hunting to hopefully take my mind off the things that bother me.

Yup, it's easy to get wrapped up in the things you can't control, but when you stop and drink in your surroundings it makes it all alright.

I'm the smae way sometimes too. I get upset sometimes when hunts don't work out perfectley as I invisioned them but at the end of the day I have to step back and think that I am trurly blessed to be doing this as often as I do.

Oh Jeff, I know exactly what you mean. My first two seasons bow hunting were (what I thought) great. I killed one deer and a few hogs. The last 4 years, I haven't done anything except watch trees grow. I was pretty frustrated at first but I have learned that everytime I go out, I still learn something new.

It took me a couple of slow seasons to finally go hunting for the "journey".

Good post,
Waid

Hey don't get me wrong.....I still have a purpose in mind I haven't gotten to the point where the outcome is not in my mind. I'd just like to get to the point where it isn't "front and center". It takes nights like last night to nudge me.

Rob/PA's coming into town, tomorrow.....and I've been worrying about where to go.....what deke set-up......getting in.....getting out.....everything.

Gotta be a happy medium, though......and for that I AM still searching.

Without starting another thread.....do you guys feel "pressure" when you invite someone else in to hunt your grounds? I must admit.....I do a little. I tell almost all my hunting stories to you guys.....and though I don't embellish.....I also realize I'm fortunate enough to live and hunt in a place that affords me lots of opportunities.

I don't see a lot of game ALL the time.....but I live in fertile grounds. Blessing and a curse (in this instance). I KNOW he don't give a rat's ass........but I'd love to put him on one of our birds while he's here.

It is funny you write this today. I was just on Bear's website and they had a quote from Fred Bear and when I read it I thought to myself, yep that is what it is all about. Here is the quote.

"A hunt based only on trophies taken falls far short of what the ultimate goal should be....time to commune with your inner soul as you share the outdoors with the birds, animials, and fish that live there"

Yea I can definately see where you would feel pressure for your land to "deliver". But hunting is hunting and it's out of your control. I know you guys will be out there having a hoot.

Yeah I used to get all caught up in the kill. But after my wife gave birth to our daughter four years ago the journey is always way more revealing to me than the destination.
