What you guys do with a dog is just unbelievable. I have seen a good dog work a few times, it's like they just simply go nuts for it. I mean you look up in the sky and then over at them, and they are looking up in the sky, you raise your gun and they just get so antsy to go, it's wonderful to see that kind of relationship between man and dog.

You wait until you spend countless hours training a dog.....hunting buddy.....and she spots that first duck coming in silent....with only a glance in that direction.

I can't explain that feeling.;)
Sam e thing when you train a brd dog to hunt upland game ....... you will NEVER forget your dog's first point on game .....

I've seen some dogs that go nuts.....and they're a JOY to hunt over. My Ashley was a laid back hunter/retriever. It cost her in some trials (subjectivity).....but her nose was unmatched by any I've seen.

Later in life I let her run banks.....and that was just fine. She was solid.

If I had duck hunting opportunities where I live now (in abundance)......I'd never have found deer hunting. These dog guys are spot-on...... If you've ever had those moments with your dog.....the one you trained......you know "that feeling".;)

Those looks you get from your dog just kill me sometimes. Like, "hey you idiot! Are you blind? Didn't you see those ducks do a flyby past your head? I thought we were out here to kill birds..."

YESSIR .... I remember we were pheasant hunting and my brother's Brit pointed a big male .... he got the shot and dropped it ... right on a small stack of reeds in the middle of a pond .... his dog jumped in .... swam to the winged bird, and chased it around the reeds ... the dog swimming, the bird able to walk on the patch .... he eventually got the bird and swam back across the water, delivering into my brother's hand.... it was such a scene that my brother teared up .... it was awesome ..

another time we both had our dogs ... mine was a Viszla .... I shot a bird over his dog ......he couldn't find it .. it was my pup's maiden voyage after MUCH training by me ..... I loosed her ... within 2 minutes she comes trotting over to me with said bird in her mouth ..... what a feeling that was ....

Man Jeff you hit the nail on the head big time here!!! I've trained a good number of my own dogs through out the years for pheasant and duck hunting. There isn't a better feeling when the 1st retrieve is done by your hunting buddy (your pup). This year will be my 1st year with my new black lab puppy. He's a little over a year old and I can't wait for duck and pheasant season to open. Great post Jeff!!!!

I find it amazing that the dogs are that smart. I have seen them look at the birds and then look at you like " well, you gonna shoot or what?" they really do love it don't they??
