Default Black Bear Broadhead

Fixed or Mechanical for black bear? I currently shoot rage 2 blade for whitetail. Also, my bow is set at 70lbs, is that enough? Never hunted a bear before, but I'll be damned if I am using a gun when I go this fall!

Thanks!

Personally I would shoot fixed....but thats another thread. 70# is more than enough. A black bear will die quicker and easier than a deer will, if shot properly.

If you have confidence in the head and you like the way the preform on deer, then you should be fine for black bear. A very large deer 300lbs on the hoof ( rare except in the far north) is larger than the average size black bear, which goes around 180 to 200 lbs. In fact most bears shot my my state of VA are under 200 lbs.

Check with your outfitter a lot of outfitters will not allow mechanicals for one reason or another. If he is Okwith it I'm sure your setup will do fine.I used a Slick Trick Mag on this one and he almost made it 50 yards. Skull just missed B&C 20 13/16"

Any head that has worked on deer for you will work for bears. If you get a chance to see one skinned out, you will not believe what you see under there...there is not much to a bear. Like someone said, hit them in the lungs and they will go down much faster than a deer. The two I have killed made it a combined total of 20 yards (one died right under my stand after the 7 yard shot).

Worry more about shot placement then what head. Any sharp broadhead will do the job on a bear as long as you have good shot placement.
