Could you?

Could you give up whitetail hunting to move to Alaska to hunteverything they have with a bow?? I couldn't because I have an addiction to whitetails and have for 20 yrs, but it would be very tempting simply just for the views and thevastwilderness, I ve never been there, hell, I ain't never been above the Mason Dixon Line and Im 33 yrs old almost, chances are, at this rate, I'll never see Alaska! Hey, Kodiak Archer, give us some pics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would move to Alaska at the drop of a hat, so long as I had a good job to sustain me. There are plenty of other animals there to challenge me. ;)

Instead of Alaska I would move west and have a lot of opertunity at many diff. big game animals INCLUDING whitetails.

In a heartbeat. I have been there, andit is an awesome place. The salmon fishing is to die for. And they have moose, mountain goats, caribou, dall sheep, griz and black bear, blacktail deer, wolf, musk ox. I know I missed something. I think I could make due.:D

The whitetails would make a nice roadtrip.

couldn't do it either, there is just something about whitetails, that's whythey are North America's most sought after big game animal...

I was offered a teachingposition in AK in 1995. I passed and went to work in my home statedue to the fact that I wouldn't beclose my family (my brother and I are very close) and I couldnt hunt whitetails. No regrets, but at times I wonder what kind of hunting I would have liked the most up there. If I had to guess I would say bear. I hope to have the extra money someday to travel to AK for a few hunts.

I'd move to Montana and agree not to hunt whitetails, given a good job prospect. Hey if I don't get the gig in Henrico Co.... wonder if Montana is hiring?

I think I've met five people from Montana and it seems that there are aboutsix or sevenjobs in the state... teacher, police officer, nurse/doctor, fire fighter, postal service..... the sixth must be the governor and I know there are some ranchers which makes seven.

Alaska lacks two serious attractions/must haves for me.... ducks and turkeys.

VA, I wish you could have seen the posts several years ago by one of our members we called ABM... Artic Bow Man.

He videotaped a lot of his hunts (stalks) and would post up frame grabs, or even a lot of still pics too. The variety of game he got to pursue on a DAILY basis... Unbelievable.

RE: Could you?

If I moved I'd have to have my white-tails...

But theres nothing better than thumping a Bull Moose.....It did.....in fact...surpass any of my white-tail hunts....but maybe it was because Moose have never been a part of my life....

Funny you brought this up. My buddy told me the other day he got a job offer there and I said, FREAKING ALASKA, are you kidding me. He is very serious about going too. (Long story on the job offer and very interesting)I think the place is awsome but you have to fly around in those little planes. Not for me.[&:]

I woke up in the middle of the night once. I was in a cold sweat! Alaska was calling! I was about 36-35 years old, I'm guessing. I decided to give up everything. I was going to move to Alaska on my 45th birthday. It was going to be a two year endeavor. The plan was to kick about for a year to gain residency-I'd do whatever to filled my tummy. During thesecond year, I was going to hunt anything and everything-no holds barred.

At 39, I married my wife. At 40, I was the father of a bright cheerful young daughter-101/2 months later my son came into the world. My plan forAlaska...out the door!

Alaska is a special place (I been there 5 times on various hunts). If I were still single...Yeah, I would go in a second! The vastness, the variety and multitude of the game animals, etc. It's a no brainer! Moreover, given the prolific nature of white-tailed deer, they'll be there soon enough.

My brother lives outside Fairbanks. I have been there a couple times. For those of you that said "in a heartbeat". I want you to go up there in Jan-Feb. With no,light and -30+ temps for days if not weeks on end. Nothingruns unless it is pluged in or left running. Beautifull place to visit, but one of the last places on earth I would live! So NO I would not!

TeeJay has a good point but I think I would do it anyway. I love hunting whitetails but my passion is hunting bruins! I will hunt there some day, just not sure when it will be.

I think your winters might be a tad more cold then ours. We don't get the -20 to -30 temps like we use to all the time in the winter in January and February. Whats your temps like in the winter? I know you guys get more snow then us.
