Not to be a stickler, but do you have to be in a "league" to play a sport?

If not, I play basketball, and played baseball for much of my life (haven't in the last year or so), but no always officially in a league.

I play Ice hockey, roller hockey (starts one week from Friday), and Golf ..... I used to bowl ... I'd like to start doing that again ..... football& Basketball- casually
