Am I cheating

I signed up for a indoor league recently and everything was fine for the first couple of weeks, now a bunch of the guys are giving me s*&t because Im using a reddot sight, and the owner of the shop is now saying I have to a buy pin setup or I cant continue the league, I already decided they can kiss my @ss and wont be returning, I have asked for my money back and so far the owner refuses. Its not like I was dominating the league or anything like that plus I have seen others using them in different leagues. The reason Im even using a red dot is because I recently switch to left hand and its easier for me to shoot. I think the owner is pissed because instead of purchasing one of his precious Mathews I went withthe oneida extreme, I dont know but I dont have the time for this petty crap. So Im I wrong for using a red dot.

I would have to see the rules regarding equipment before I could answer.

this is why i don't shoot in leagues. someone tell me why this is cheating. does the red dot make it hit the target better? if so, i'm buying one for my bow. as far as i know it works like any other sight. point, aim, and shoot. sounds to me like you got into a cry baby league.

RE: Am I cheating

Rules are rules H.H. to keep it fair. There are different classes for different equipment, it's how it is... Do you wanna race your Street rod against some professional dragster??

It's people shooting similiar equipment as defined by the ruling body.

If they don't have class seperations (you would be in the open class) and it's pins only, yes your cheating. If they allow scopes/lenses, no your not cheating.

Unless they have a rule that forbids electronic sights. ;)

It's really simple. Play by the rules or don't play. You signed up and paid your entry fee which signified you were prepared to abide by the rules of the league. You have been informed that the red dot sight is not legal under those rules so the option is now yours. To acquire sights that meet the league's rules or not.

To my point of view, if you've decided you'll refuse to use sights that are legal, then the shop owner is not obligated to return money he accepted from you in good faith. In fact, I'd say he's being pretty lenient with you because he could have simply disqualified you and sent you on your way. I'd also say that it has nothing to do with you buying an Onieda instead of a Mathews. It's his job to enforce the rules.

I've never shot in a league that had classes, only at tournaments.

The indoor league I shoot has classes. Really only two classes: pins and then everyone else. Either way, you would be in the "everyone else" class. Sorry, rules are rules.

I have shot in a bunch of indoor leagues before. I have never seen a shop seperate an indoor 3D league into classes. I have seen 300 leagues that were broken down to different classes. I would not say you are "cheating", but if they do have different classes, then I would say you are using equipment that may not be allowed, but sounds to me as if it as an honest mistake, not an attempt to "cheat".

If you don't want to change your sight and you want to continue to shoot at the league ask the owner if you can participate without turning in your scores. You will get the benefit of the practice and the facility (which is the important thing in the big picture) but you will not be eligible for prizes.

I haven't shot an indoor league with classes either, I normally see that in outdoor 3-D. I have never shot indoor 3-D though. That doesn't mean they can't do it, or make their own rules for their own league if they want to. I would ask him to show you where it says you can't use it. If they have a rule that says you can't use electronic sights then I guess you are screwed. Or if they they have one that says you can't use a one pin adjustable sight, if you have that sort of mount. They might also consider it a scope, although I wouldn't since it isn't magnified.

If it doesn't specifically state that you can't use that type of sight and you are in a "hunter" class then I would think it would fall on your hunting regs. If electronic sights are illegal to use hunting then I don't see where you should use them in a competition with "hunting" equipment. If they are legal I think they are in the wrong.

As far as getting your money back I doubt there is anything you can do about it.

This is one of the reasons I don't like any kind of leagues or competitions. I am not a very competitive person, I just like to have fun doing something I enjoy. And competition just seems to bring out the A hole in people. Some take it way to serious and suck all the fun out of it. Maybe you could ask them if you could keep shooting but just not be eligible to win or something. I have done that before, I do it with 3-D quite a bit because I like using a range finder. I just want to shoot, I could care less about being better than everyone else or winning a stupid trophy. Some people just can't accept that type of mentality though. I don't keep score when I golf either, then again I suck at golf;).

I do see their point though if they do indeed have a rule against it. Even if you were not dominating or even if you sucked it still sets a precedence for someone else. If they let you do it they will have to let everyone do it. If it were me and I didn't have rule specifically saying you couldn't use that sight I would let you finish the league then change the rules for the next year.

Good luck,
Paul

What are the specific ruels for your league? It hunter class includes everyone who has a bow legal for hunting in your state, then you may be legal. Without knowing specific rules for your league, how can anyone say?

As stated by many others, it's whatever is stated in the league rules.

For me...I would just abide by the rules if I wanted to continue on there and switch to a pin sight. As far as cheating I don't know because I mainly hunt with my bows, not much for tournaments or anything like that.

Hey I don't have a clue about the rules, but you should have bought a Mathews....then you would have been dominating the league.

Well something doesn't add up if you where shooting for two weeks and no one said anything. I mean they had to see the way your bow was set up right so why wait 2 weeks to say something unless you where kicking thier butt's and they just didn't like it so they went crying to the owner.Just my opinion.

I agree with that. Every story has two sides but still, quite a bit of the side of the story we've been told seems to be missing. [&:]

I would not call it cheating but it is illegal to hunt with here. If it is not part of my actual hunting equipment than I don't use it.

RE: Am I cheating

I have read the rules that I recieved before I started the league and it says nothing about "certain types of sights that can and cannot be used" I was shooting hunter class and it is legal to hunt with electronic sights in my state. I have no problem following rules. They even looked at my setup before starting the league and now it is going on week 4 of the league and all off the sudden it's a huge problem. I have walked through the front door at least once a week with no one saying anything tome, its not like I was sneeking through the back door and they finally caught me in my wicked cheating ways. Im not looking to cause problems, I just want to shoot my bow and hang with my freinds after work. I have tried to talk to the owner like an adult but it seems to me he is listening to a couple slime balls that think they are gods gift to bow hunting. The sight I am using is the Pollington 33mm Pro-Sight which offersno magnification or anything else that I would consider an advantage.

BTW What they dont know is my arrows are laser/GPS guided and my sight has x-ray/infrared capabilities
