How do you manage: Your job, your family, your yard work, work around the house, your babies, your wife, bills, other family...The HUNTING FORUM??.. I guess here is my secret.. I married a country girl from the same city I grew in, she is ok with hunting, I hunt with her dad, most importantly, I spend from 6PM -9PM with my wife and kids...I embrace them.......house work mostly on the weekends..scouting, shooting, on the weekends...The wife is ok with it....(Ok..She gets her "hair" done and I bought her a new living room set[8D]) so anyway....... And then at 9PM I'm here with you...it all rolls ok here...but I embrace my family from when I get home from work until the babies goto bed.....I may have found the magic balance...until she blows up at me...but thats women and the chemical making..[&:] Brian |

RE: How do you find time for all this Bowhunting Stuff?
I work 11-8 during hunting season so I can hunt any morning of the week I want to hunt.
I have a few hunting buddies that have wives that get along with mine so they hang out while we hunt. I know a jeweler that hooks me up at his cost when the wife gets iritated. I tell her how much cheaper it is to hunt for my food, she still has no idea, haha. |

RE: How do you find time for all this Bowhunting Stuff?
Well heres my life story as of now... I work two part-time jobs, 1 paying realy well for a high school grad w/ no college, just not alothours but it pays the bills.and the other, It fills the truck up a couple a times a week. If im not working im on here, My GF is cool with it most of the time, but when she comes over to the house, she gets irritated if im on here too long... understandable. I go out and shoot about everyother day on average, I go to bowshoots on Sundays if i can get off work. and when hunting season rolls around... If im not at work im in the woods. The GF goes with me sometimes. She wants to get into it too, but gets irritated that she cant learn it over night. she'll get there though. THe bills i have are pretty typical... cell, internet, car, atv, insurance, every thing left over has 95% went to hunting lately...
Wow there it is in writing.... I didnt realize how wild of a life i had... somebody stop me!:DI couldnt be more satisfied though. |

I think alack of that balance caused alot of the problems in my 1st marriage, lol! Now I'm a divorced father of 2 beautiful girls, with shared custody. I'm free to hunt like a madman 50% of the time, and at 7 & 8, my girls are starting to show major interest in their Daddy's obsession! They're going on their first ever huntin a couple of weeks. I'd never push it on them, but if they fall inlove with it . . at that point allI'll need is a girl who can understand it, not too many of those in this city. You guys who have that are extremely lucky!!

RE: How do you find time for all this Bowhunting Stuff?
Well between College, College Baseball, my family and my G/F, my hunting time has been cut. I do find time to hunt quite a bit still. The fall is a slow time for baseball and this leaves me plenty of time to hunt and get my schoolwork done. My family isn't too demanding since they know i love to hunt and I don't have kids, not for a while either.:DDefinately I am no where close to ready!!! My G/F is from the country and understands that during hunting season bowhunting is my passion, at least during the day time. At night is when I spend most of my time with her if she isn't working. She does enjoy coming along on trips to the woods but hasn't showed interest and hunting herself which is ok with me. I like my time to myself in the woods but I would certainly teach her if she wanted.
Yes, a good jewler comes in handy for those times when the sides of the hole are just too tall!!!:D |
RE: How do you find time for all this Bowhunting Stuff?
the Jewler.. thats the KEY word to a good relationship when the women dont understand or cant comprehend what obsession we have.. so.. just take her to the jewler before or after.. but atleast once a year.. they love jewlery as much as we love hunting and outdoors.. i'll never understand it.. but i dont have to..i get what i want.. she gets what she wants..

RE: How do you find time for all this Bowhunting Stuff?
I work 3 days (actually nights) a week. My wife takes vacation from her job the same time I do (she's a nurse too). October and November are our vacation times. She usually gets a week or so in June to Vacation with her girls while I take care of our son. Seems like a good trade to me that she goes up North with her friends while I get to go hunting later in the year and then she takes care of our son. Then we can usually get a some time in August, September, and December to have some time to our selves. It seems to work well for us. When we take a week off from work, it actually ends up being about 8 - 10 days depending on how we work our schedules.

RE: How do you find time for all this Bowhunting Stuff?
I hunt so I can stay married!!! It's my peace and what I love to do. This place just keeps me dreaming until season on something opens. Unlike my wife, all of you can enjoy a good hunting story.

RE: How do you find time for all this Bowhunting Stuff?
I hunt closer to home now more often.
|
RE: How do you find time for all this Bowhunting Stuff?
I fit it in when I can ..... My God and my family come first, tho ..... by putting God first, I have been more successful with less time in the woods .......
Here's the reality check with hunting ... when someone you love is in a serious accident or dies .... that puts hunting in it's proper place in life .... |
RE: How do you find time for all this Bowhunting Stuff?
AMEN Tony AMEN.

RE: How do you find time for all this Bowhunting Stuff?
I don't often log in from home anymore,(dial-up[:@]), I check in throughout the day at work. I find balance by putting family first. Carie knows what my passions are and allows me to persue them as long as she and Lily come first. She makes sacrifices for me to be able to hunt and I make them for her in other areas.

My Grand Dad has always said "People find time to do what they want to do"
I've found that to be very True!;) Dan |
RE: How do you find time for all this Bowhunting Stuff?
I'm engaged, but living apart while she finishes school, so I do have more time to dedicate to archery/this forum. My job does allow some free time in spurts throughout the day to check here. Come Fall, my whole family knows I'm going to be in the woods every minute I can get and everyone is very supportive (even my fiance, even though sometimes it's an issue). I bought her one heck of a rock this christmas though so I'll just point to that anytime she complains this next season:D[8D]

RE: How do you find time for all this Bowhunting Stuff?
I try to fit it in where i can. Me and my girlfriend dont get to spend alot of time alone together because of my work schedule and her kids. She somewhat understands that rifle season has been a tradition with my father since ive been able to hunt. As for bowhunting, I do that local so I usually only go when has the kids or is working. Plus i try to spend as much time doing things she likes with herin the summer.

RE: How do you find time for all this Bowhunting Stuff?
Fortunately my job has me sitting in front of a computer all day so that makes being on here easy. I fit in scouting, setting stands, fishing, and the other things where I can around family and housework. Hunting takes up my time when the seasons are in, but nothing will take priority over my family. Whenever there is a family thing that needs my attention or a family event I am there. There is nothing worse than sitting in the woods and feeling guilty about being there, so I don't put myself in that position. I hunted a lot this year and my wife was great about it. After turkey season is over I will be paying her back, and happy to do it.

RE: How do you find time for all this Bowhunting Stuff?
Heres my secret my wife works until 7 every night for the most part. I come home at 245 everyday so I shoot and do a little work here and there. After that it around 7 she gets home cooks I clean up and shower. We watch Tv go to sleep. Weekends are pretty much we sleep in on the off season of hunting season and when its not a fishing day. Get up I start work saturday night every saturday night we go out to eat she doesnt have to cook and clean the kitchen. Then we go see a movie or we go out with friends. Sunday we go to church then come home and she cooks lunch while I get ready to get the rest of my work done if theres any left most of the time I am actually done on the weekdays so all I do is play around on the weekends IE shoot my bow fish and hunt.

RE: How do you find time for all this Bowhunting Stuff?
This is a breath of fresh air for me...
I go out with a city girl and she just doesnt get that there are several weekends I need to be gone from the house... Opening of all archery seasons, duck and of course Fish. Sometimes I get red in the face trying to explain it to her but she usually comes around in the end. If she doesnt my daughter (2 by the way) will do all this with me, so eventually it will be time off for her. After I explain that to her she usually understands better. |
RE: How do you find time for all this Bowhunting Stuff?
Michigan,
This is an interesting thread and it gets others on here the opportunity to learn more about the people on this forum. In my personal situation, I'm married with three (3) children, the oldest is 7, 3, and 2 years. I work 3-11 shift throughout the year, and any overtime we accumulate can be taken at a 1.5 rate, or as Comp time off. I keep all my overtime until hunting season and take days on either end of days off which gives me extended time afield. As for the wife, I have introduced her to hunting in recent years during PA's rifle and spring turkey seasons. So I hunt the archery season, and accompany her during the firearms season. We have a more than willing extended family when child care becomes an issue. Good post. |
