Not legal in my part of the state to bait.
BUT if it were I'd probably do so to make taking some does easier

I'd also hunt baited bear if given the chance. Hopefully eventually I'd be able to do a spot & stalk for bear as well as a baited hunt.

I do,and that is because I refuse to prostitute the word to mean any more than the artificial placing of food as to position game in a specific place and time in order to simplify the act of killingthat animal.

And if baiting were not advantageous and unfair why was it banned when the results of it decimated wildlife in the earlier part of this century.
Baiting water foul is an example where thousands of birds were killed for markets with the use of punt guns fired over bait.

In todays whitetail world baiting is unnecessary ,unsafe and thats cause I say so. ;)

In NC where I hunt it is legal but I don't dump corn or anything during season, I will hunt over crops and other food sources(whatever we want to call that).

In VA it is illegal to hunt over bait and any food sites must be cleared up 30 days before season. I do put out corn and horse/mule feed mixed with Imperial Whitetail 30-06 + Protein during the spring and summer. I call it my deer steroids program some others may call it supplemental feeding but since it is gone well before the season and doesn't get hunted over I wouldn't call it baiting.



Here is one definition of baiting, I guess we all may be guilty of this one.

2. To entice, especially by trickery or strategy.

In summary unless you kill a deer in his/her bed or walking to acorns or other naturally ocurring food sources which you have in no way planted or alteredyou are baiting, please report to your nearest game wardens office and turn yourself in if baiting is an illegal practice in your area.;)

It is legal for some animals in some areas of TX.

Most of the time I don't hunt over bait, but occasionally I do.

Jim, you mentioned that baiting is unsafe. How so? And do you think it's any more unsafe than deer drives?

Jim....It's my understanding that food plots were once illegal in PA (if you intended to hunt over or near them). Is that true?

No idea my about old laws I'm farming so I don't worry about baiting laws. I could shoot any deer I want any time of year for crop damage.[:o]

I'm just a piss poor farmer and don't get my crops harvested in a timely manner.;)

Some guys just don't plant there corn deep enough, whats the problem and those apples are a pain in the arse to drill in the ground!:D As long as its legal I could care less how someone else hunts. Its actually none of my business!

Nope, but I may give bear baiting a try.. All other baiting is illegal here in Idaho.
