Cool Find when shed hunting...
What would be best to use to bleach the skull? Found this when out shed hunting with my nephews. I am gonna make a euro mount out of it and give it to them as gift.

RE: Cool Find when shed hunting...
You want to use 40% peroxide no bleach. The peroxide can be purchased in beauty supply stores this is not the stuff from the pharmacy.Bleach will weeken the bone it is a oxidiser and the skull will turn yellow after a few years. After soaking in peroxide until white air dry and spray with someElmers glue and water It will look awesome.

I have done them 2 ways one using the salon grade peroxide 50% I have a friend that has her license so that one was easy. And then polyeurathaned it in a satin thatone looks alright. To keep the bones from drieing out you have to seal it. The one that looks the best I Sprayed with kilz it doesnt take out the lines and marks in the heads if you worried about that.I would recommend the kilz it looks the best IMHO.

If it were me, I'd powerwash the whole thing - cleaning the dirt out of all the crevices... Then, I'd run some sandpaper over it, tape off the antlers and spraypaint it.
Once you get a couple coats of flat white on there, pull the tape off the antlers andwipe them with some dark wood stain to bring out the color. This one is painted with $2 flat white paint from walmart. ![]() |
