Marquis vs Black Ice
I have a very good archery friend doing some serious research for me on this, what are your thoughts??
|
RE: Marquis vs Black Ice
I love these two bows. I would take either if I could. I personally would probably get the black Ice for myself. I like the shorter axle to axle length. I do a lot of walking to get to my stands so that is important to me. They both are absolutely beautiful bows though.

RE: Marquis vs Black Ice
Im a little concerned about the loss of KE i will deal with though. I will shoot somewhere around 58-59# of KE with the Ice. Compared to 73# KE right now with the X force. should I be comncerned? Is 58 # of KE good enough???
|
RE: Marquis vs Black Ice
Va, I have the Black Ice and it will be easier to handle more poundage than the XForce because it is very smooth and 80% letoff. I shoot 69lbs and it is like butter. My KE is pretty goodI think.

RE: Marquis vs Black Ice
lknchoppers, what is your arrow weight total??
|
RE: Marquis vs Black Ice
Va, the total weight is 403 grains. The bow is 30" draw length andI get 280 fps out of this setup.
|
RE: Marquis vs Black Ice
I would look a the Marquis if you are looking for of KE. I shoot 402 grain arrow at 270 fps @ 28" draw at 60 lbs I get 65 lb of KE! And 75% let off. Lets say I would shoot the same setup as LKNCHOPPERS I would get around 295 FPS and 77.7 LB of KE!! This bow is very smooth drawing Plus I like the length of the Marquis 34 1/2 in ATA. And it has a nice BH.
EDIT: LKNCHOPPERS you are getting 70 lb of KE with your setup. |
RE: Marquis vs Black Ice
Vabowman What draw length and poundage do you shoot?

RE: Marquis vs Black Ice
the X Force is just too harsh, I can't get into it anymore. I have been set up for a 26" draw, but im not too sure that's correct, if I measure my wing span from middle finger tip to tip across the back and divide by 2.5 will this give the most accurate measurement??
|
RE: Marquis vs Black Ice
ok, after going to hunter's friend and checking my DL the way they say to, it is 27". I have been shooting a 26" DL. however, I do shoot a release and d loop if that makesx a difference. either way it's short!!! that's why I pull over 70# and shoot a 365 grain arrow, trying to get some speed and KE!!!
|
RE: Marquis vs Black Ice
Yes a release and D loop will shorten your draw but not by much unless the release is too long, maybe 1/2",If you draw should be 27" I would go to 26 1/2" to a ccomodate the release and D loop. And how much poundage will you be shooting? and how heavy of an arrow?

RE: Marquis vs Black Ice
I usually give away the Diamond bows after a year, last year I had the BI and ordered a Marquis to be this years hunting bow, I made the mistake of shooting the BI one last time.
Long story short the BI is still here with me I could not part with such a great shooting bow, I know I can set that baby up and shoot lights out with it anytime. But for now it is nice and cosy in it's case, sitting patiently as my back up. The Marquis is another great shooting bow and is probably going to stay with me as well. Best thing to do is go and shoot both then try and decide which one is more suited to you and your shooting style or be like me and have both:D |
RE: Marquis vs Black Ice
367 gr arrow, at max pull, for the Ice it's 70#
|
RE: Marquis vs Black Ice
A 367 gr arrow at 70# @ 26.5" draw you will get approx 60 ftlb of KE at 271 fps. The thing is you got a short draw length loosing you allot of speed. I think you should be ok with 69 lb of KE but you might want to stay away from mecs.
edit: This is for the Marquis. |
RE: Marquis vs Black Ice
I shoot only fixed heads!! :D

RE: Marquis vs Black Ice
Landon, I wouldn't get caught in the speed/KE numbers game. There are a lot of things I look for in a bow besides speed. KE on most bows are more than ample. Also trying to shoot one pin out to x-number of yards is not that important. I still have some speed bows No doubt, but it seems every year I go to a little heavier arrow. The Black Ice and Marquis are both very nice bows. I myself would prefer the Marquis if I could choose only one. I wouldn't overlook the Allegiance, 101, Guardian or 82 either.
I wish we were closer you would be more than welcome to put all my bows through their paces. Good Luck in your search!! Dan |
RE: Marquis vs Black Ice
me too Dan!!!! Im going to PM you now!!

RE: Marquis vs Black Ice
VABOWMAN,
I'm out of the loop and can't answer...not enough knowledge on those two. I'm thinking about dumping the 2003 Hoyt Havoctec and trying a DXT for 2009. Your thoughts? I like short bows with a decent brace height...I don't need a smoker...If I'm in the 275 - 285 fps range at 27.5 inches I'll be happy. Brian |
