As long as you have a good expandable broadhead put it in the middle and watch him flop. Rocket used to make a 4 bladed broadhead that was down right deadly on turkeys. We bought a bunch of them out of a catalog for $9.99 a pack. At last count we were 13 for 13 on turkeys with them. I wish I could find some more of them.
Did they look like this one? Of course this one is not a 4 blader but it is a 3 1/2" cutting diameter Rocket.

They don't like lower poundage and frontal shots,I can tell you that.[:o]

YEP,at 25 yards and he went staright up,the arrow fell out,the bird dove to the ground about 50 yards away and I never even found blood.Even looking at the pics gmmat posted, the shot was perfect, just not for the setup and broadhead combo.

I had a witness with me and we both thought the bird would be laying where he hit the ground, the shot was PERFECT but the breastbone was just too much,as you can see from the picture.

i hit one with a rage and it busted right through the breast bone but do you think fixed blades would work fine?

Here's a breast bone from turkey shot from the backside. The head (a Wasp SST Hammer) lodged in the back of the breastbone. Shooter was using a 70lb bow. Just shows you how tough that area really is...

In my case,I think a smaller cut anything would have done the job,as you can see, just the 1 blade caught the bone.Anything smaller would have slipped through, imo.

I am not experienced enough with turkeys to say that I would or would have not been able to shoot through the mass of the bone with a fixed head.

so is head shooting wrong guys ?
in oz we have wild turkey everywhere ( no not the drink althought i have been known) and head shooting leaves the meat in good condition and its about the same size as vital area

Nothing wrong whatsoever with aiming for the head. Hey, if you can hit 'em there then go for it. I think alot of guys aim at the wing socket since it's a better target. For me, I'd say it depends on how close and the direction the bird is facing.

edit: spelling correction
