The ability to know when you've messed up.. sometimes even before you did. And then to take from that mistake a lesson that will never be commited again.

Attitude ----- some folks think they know it all and don't want any advive . I am 66 and still learn something new or better every year . There are always better and innovative ways to make one a better hunter . One of the ways to become better is to LISTEN ! my 2 cents ...........

Combination of alot of factors...if you define an "above average" hunter as one who puts deer on the ground and makes the most of the location he hunts, then I would say determination and persistence are huge factors.....on the small side, attention to the details is so important.

Ahhh, all good posts. You're right kickinbuck, whether we want to admit it or not-- luck plays a big role. But I'm surprised no one else has said my choice: scouting and doing your homework. I guess njbuck22 said it pretty well. But I believe that if you not only scout, but scout well, then you will double your success rate and double your deer sightings too.
