Just Bowhunt?
How many of you just bowhunt? What do you like better if you do both(for deer). I like bowhunting a ton more than gun hunting. :)
|
RE: Just Bowhunt?
I do both. Bow hunting has the nod from me. More challenging, season is much longer. Gun hunting is much, much easier and requires alot less time. OOps. I hope my wife doesn' t read this!:D;)

RE: Just Bowhunt?
I do hunt using both. I try and take all my deer with a bow, sometimes I am successful. Gun season has become play-time/or expirement using different guns.
|
RE: Just Bowhunt?
This past season I did both, first time I gun hunted in 12 or 13 years! Bought a new Remi 870 Deer Gun, love it! I like bowhunting much better, more peaceful, less hunters! Much more of a challange, highly addictive, I love bowhunting!
|
RE: Just Bowhunt?
I only bowhunt. However this past Christmas my dad bought me a new muzzleloader. So it looks like I will be toting the old smokepole in the woods a little bit this fall. Might be good to have a change of pace this fall. Bowhunting is still my true love though, and will always be #1 in my heart.:)

RE: Just Bowhunt?
I only bowhunt for deer. it' s about 50% gun and 50% bow for turkey:)
|
RE: Just Bowhunt?
99% Bowhunt !!! I am an addict !!!
|
RE: Just Bowhunt?
For deer 80% bow and 20% gun. But bow is the most fun. Now for duck hunting
well let' s just say my buddys on the other side of the ponds didn' t like the idea of me using my bow. For the life of me I can' t figure out why. |
RE: Just Bowhunt?
I do alot more bowhunting than any other type hunting, but I love to do it all. Bowhunting is my most preferred style of hunting.
|
RE: Just Bowhunt?
I strictly bowhunt only for deer and turkey. Gun hunting just seemed too easy and wasn' t fun anymore.
|
RE: Just Bowhunt?
Bow-only here. If I can' t get close, then let it walk. Also more gratifying.
|
RE: Just Bowhunt?
I do both. Its Hard to say which I like better. Its the Hunt not the Weapon But I do Prefer to take at least one with the Bow, it takes the pressure off come shotgun season. Love to watch them up close under my tree so I Guess Bow Hunting gets my vote.
|
RE: Just Bowhunt?
I do both. I bow hunt for deer and rifle hunt for elk. I love my rifles almost as much as my bow. But the primary reason I rifle hunt for elk is because I love hunting with the guys I have been hunting with for years, and they all still rifle hunt. I just couldn' t give up elk camp.
|
RE: Just Bowhunt?
I do both. I love my bowhunting, can' t get enough time in the woods if I hunt every day and I hunt with the gun out of tradition with a few friends.
|
RE: Just Bowhunt?
I bowhunt only. I just think it is more of a challenge than gun hunting and the season lasts alot longer.
Here in Missouri, I bowhunt during the regular firearms season using a firearms permit. |
RE: Just Bowhunt?
Bow only for now. But I am interested in getting a muzzle loader for turkey.
When I am out with the bow it just seems like the whole world disappears. It' s just me, the bow, the trees, and the wind. And oh yea, the ever elusive deer. |
RE: Just Bowhunt?
Bow only here as well.
|
RE: Just Bowhunt?
Bowhunt deer and turks! Found that gun hunting deer and keeping large parties off your ground was nearly impossible. Unfortunately, we don' t own any ground and it became a little too dangerous. We do try late season muzzleloader, but it' s not the same as the bow!
|
RE: Just Bowhunt?
Bow is by far my favorite way to hunt--after starting to bowhunt i would almost feel guilty about gun hunting but if i don' t have venison by gun hunting opener i will use a gun.I do want to take a good deer with a bow but i also like venison--ALOT!
|
RE: Just Bowhunt?
Right now I bow hunt only.
Of the 12 seasons of hunting, I have only carried a gun in one season. And then I didn' t even shoot anything. Had the mind set of bowhunting and wouldn' t take a shot that would have been no problem for a gun. |
RE: Just Bowhunt?
In 1997 I bought my first bow and a new 30-30 rifle. I now have seven bow kills and the rifle has still never been in the woods. Turkey hunting is still predominantly with my Mossberg but I have started to try with the bow.
|
RE: Just Bowhunt?
I strictly bowhunt for deer. My wife got mad at me about four or five years ago because she said I hunted all the time but hardly ever killed anything. I got aggrevated with her, so I blew the dust off my .270 and proceeded to kill a deer my next five times out. She now appreciates why I bowhunt.
|
RE: Just Bowhunt?
I Bowhunt only. I love being up close and personel with the animals I hunt.
|
RE: Just Bowhunt?
I started out in the 60' s doing both but have been strictly bowhunting now for about 25 years. I have no problem gun hunting and own both a rifle and a muzzleloader but just end up with the bow when the season is over. Being in PA I' m looking forward to seeing what the antler restriction has done to the buck in my area, maybe I can take a really good one like you guys that live in the mid-west!

RE: Just Bowhunt?
I also hunt with a gun & bow. But I rather be out in archery season any day. If it' s possible I try to fill all my tags in archery! Although there is nothing like the sound of a gun shot close to you on a cold morning & then the sound of deer running towards you! Still I' d rather take them with the bow! More of a challenge!!
|
RE: Just Bowhunt?
I gunhunt and enjoy it, but if I had to choose I' d have to pick bowhunting.
|
RE: Just Bowhunt?
Yep, I do both, but prefer hunting with the bow! This year I' m getting into hunting with a muzzleloader, and I have the feeling my cartridge rifles will be collecting a lot of dust!
|
RE: Just Bowhunt?
I grew up gun hunting, as time went by I have evolved into a bow hunter only. I simply like everything that bowhunting brings to the table.

RE: Just Bowhunt?
Bears - bow hunt only. Every other biggame animal I just hunt. While bowhunting has allure for sure. I just love hunting and find them all to be equally enjoyable. 100% honest, I have just as much joy harvesting with an arrow as a bullet and see no difference. My standards as a trophy hunter remain unchanged regardless of the weapon.....that is the challenge for me.
|
RE: Just Bowhunt?
The only time I shotgun hunt for deer is if I wasn' t able to connect with two deer during archery.
|
RE: Just Bowhunt?
For the last 15 years I' ve been bow only and don' t ever see that changing. To me bowhunting is the ultimate challenge.
|
RE: Just Bowhunt?
Bow Only from 1963 to present with a four year rifle stint between 1983 and 1987.
|
RE: Just Bowhunt?
For big game it' s bowhunting only. For small game and such I might break out a rifle or shotgun.

RE: Just Bowhunt?
I like to do both. I will only bow hunt for elk though. It is just way more exciting to get close to those bulls. I usually save deer hunting for a gun just to extend my season. I like the gun every once in awhile.:D

RE: Just Bowhunt?
Gun and Bow with Bow being used 95% or more of the time. Nothing like taking game with the bow!
|
RE: Just Bowhunt?
do both but prefer bow. like to see the whites of their eyes. and gun hunting just is too darn easy.
|
RE: Just Bowhunt?
I hunt bow, shotgun, and muzzleloader. As far as my favorite it is bow. The deer are much more relaxed in the early season. I hate to see deer run past me during shotgun season panting like crazy and looking scared out of there minds.
|
RE: Just Bowhunt?
Just got into bowhunting, but will be doing both. Got into bowhunting primarily for the added challenge, love the idea of being able to get a deer to wonder within 20 yds of your stand cause you don' t have to wear hunter orange, AND because of the 90+ days of deer hunting in a year that it brings with it.
