I agree, but a bit of speed is good too.

Because I have a shorter DL 28-28.5 , most of the bows I've owned were around 270fps at best w/ my hunting arrows.
I don't know why , and I can't explain it , but I've all of a sudden found "a need for speed". I don't know where it came from , but I got the speed bug.
With the Synergy I have, a hunting weight arrow(375gr) is doing over290fps. That's 70.53# of KE.
I have a GTO ordered that willshoot that arrow at 300+. That's smokin'.
I would say that 290 is fast....but I'll never catch quicksilver.

I consider 250 FPS fast
I keep all my hunting bows between 230-250 FPS. I get pretty close to 80 lbs KE. I also get a quieter bow, more accurate and better performance in the wind.
I cannot think of a negative for shooting aheaviest setup you can for a hunting bow, being most of thekills are within 20 yds

Honest question guys -Regarding speed versus KE
Which of these two do you think are more likely to happen:
[ol][*]You misjudge the yardage and hit high/low; or[*]You make a good hit inthe vitals and don't have enough KE to penetrate.[/ol]
Let's just presume that both guys are using 60-70# bows, and both arrows are packing more than 55# KE. (likely)
Personally, I think I'm more likely to screw up (on a whitetail)by misjudging the yardage on a longer shot - than I am to lose a deer b/c I made a good hit but my arrow didn't penetrate. That's why I play the speed game.
Now if I were hunting rhinoceros or polar bears - my opinion would change.

I LIKE ANY BOW PUSHING AN 385GR ARROW OVER 300 FPS...MORE SPEED THE BETTER THOUGH....QUIK...I DO AGREE THAT SHOT PLACEMENT IS BETTER OVERALL THEN K.E....MY GIRL FREIND DROPPED A DOE LAST SEASON WITH A BOW DOING 210FPS....ARROW WENT COMPLETELY THROUGH THE DEER.
