Archery buck kills - timing.
What was/were the date(s) of your (or even your buddies')buck kills from last season?
Just looking to collect some data and see if we get a "bell curve" or if it's totally random. I'd expect to see a hump right around the chase phase, but there are obviously a lot of guys who are already tagged out at that point... So... If you guys want, feel free to post pictures ofsome deer with the time and date of harvest. Just so we can see the caliber of bucks being taken at certain times of the year. Dates. Pictures. Votes. That's what this thread is all about. It doesn't have to be your own. It doesn't have to be a booner. Data Collection and deer pictures - in its simplest form. |
RE: Archery buck kills - timing.
Fran.....your call....but does the location of the hunter (no, no, no.....not that.....the location as far as North/South;)) affect how you would look at this?
Would this information be helpful? If not....no biggie. |
RE: Archery buck kills - timing.
Nov. 3

RE: Archery buck kills - timing.
I shot my big 8 October 24th but I can honestly say that November 6th has always been one of the better days for me to be in the woods through out the years. I see more nice mature bucks on or damn close to that day then any other date I've hunted. They really seem to chase around the 6th of November where I've done my hunting (Central Minnesota).

RE: Archery buck kills - timing.
You will get different peaks because of peoples vacation time. Especially weekends. I'd expect the highest peak to be from Oct. 22nd to Nov. 12th.

RE: Archery buck kills - timing.
Jeff - it would DEFINITELY be helpful to see the bell curve with respect to each specific geographic area - but I just don't think we'll have a big enough pool to get those kinds of numbers.
But nonetheless - just neat to know when everybody fills their tags. Greg - you're definitely right. There are a lot of guys who fill their tags whenever their vacation falls. It doesn't necessarily correlate to the chase phase or anything. Just when ppl get time off. |
RE: Archery buck kills - timing.
Chase in florida doesnt start until late Jan. But in Kansas its in late Oct eraly Nov. But i shot mine in Kansas Dec 2 745 am
|
RE: Archery buck kills - timing.
I changed the poll a bit - allowed multiple selections for guys who shot more than 1 buck last year.
|
RE: Archery buck kills - timing.

We need FSHFLYremember last year he took all the info from the posted contest kill and made graphs and charts, compiled some awesome info.

ORIGINAL: GregH You will get different peaks because of peoples vacation time. Especially weekends. I'd expect the highest peak to be from Oct. 22nd to Nov. 12th. I would be curious about bucks vs does... My first thought would be does are taken evenly throughout the season, but maybe not... |
RE: Archery buck kills - timing.
My 8 pointer was a Nov. 6th kill (schultzy....lol;)....nailed it)
|
RE: Archery buck kills - timing.
I killed my buck on December 9th. I saw a couple of bigger shooters early in the season but they wouldn't cooperate.

RE: Archery buck kills - timing.
I shot Buck #1 on 10/18/07
![]() ![]() Buck #2 on 11/10/07 ![]() ![]() I didn't enter the first one, b/c the poll didn't allow multiple selections at the time. Greg - you were right. Definitely an anomaly for the November 11-15 period (which is Sunday-Friday). I dragged mine out on Sunday, 11/12 - if that counts for anything. Post pictures, fellas. I need some horn porn! Hell, you don't even have to post YOUR OWN deer - as long as you have theharvest date - plug that into the poll - and show us pictures. |
RE: Archery buck kills - timing.
October 24th. People are probably getting sick of seeing this picture.

RE: Archery buck kills - timing.
My buddy killed this one Monday before thanksgiving last year 11/19. It was the opening day of gun season in WV, but he was bow hunting in a bow only county.
|
RE: Archery buck kills - timing.
75% of the bucks I've killed come between Oct 26 & nov 9th. With most being Oct28-nov5
20% on opening day(falling anywhere during the first few days of october) |
RE: Archery buck kills - timing.
November 3rd. Always see them Seeking and Chasing during this time.
|
RE: Archery buck kills - timing.
I don't know why, but I've killed most of my archery bucks between October 10-17. It's a wierd set of dates and that is usually when the "October Lull" is kicking in, but that's been a good time for me.
|
RE: Archery buck kills - timing.
Get a handful of P&Y magazines and all the info you need is there.. I did that for a particular county in Illinois a few years back and found Nov. 9-12 was by far the most productive.
|
RE: Archery buck kills - timing.
Nov. 4th last year... Often times a week or two later...
|
RE: Archery buck kills - timing.

|
RE: Archery buck kills - timing.

Something like 5 (6 if you include myself) bucks went down on November 10th by the WKP team.
November 10th was a day of much demise here in the midwest. |
RE: Archery buck kills - timing.
My distribution is pretty consistent...
October 1st I like to take a BIG DOE ![]() And then I bear down and usually take a buck in late October (with bow)and another one on Nov. 15th (with a gun) Like these 2 ![]() And then from Late Nov. - Jan 1 - I harvest a few DOE(S) and warm up the smoker... |
