RE: Letting bucks walk.....

A lot of the bucks that I hunt never reach any more than 140 inches in their lifetime and thats if they make it to their prime years... Yeah he'd get an arrow. The only time I think I may pass up one would be if I had 1 tag left, a lot of hunting season to go and I knew I a different buck I was after and wanted to try to kill first....

There is private ground in my county where youcould do that (Dogtown Hills? The Section?) Anyone in this area knows where I'm talking about. The ground I hunt, I am after a solid P&Y, so Yeah I'd shoot. Is there bigger Bucks out there? Yep!! I'd kill one of them too;)

ORIGINAL: gutshot

I'm just curious, how many of you havehunting land that allows you to let a legitimate 140" buck walk.
I believe that I'm set up in a spot where there are a couple of those and at least one 175". Be that as it may, I aint lettin' no 140 walk unless it's with me to the truck.

i passed up numerous bucks with my bow that would have gone 135-140" i havent shot any bucks that bigwith a bow but i have with a rifle and i want a wall full of giants not a wall full of semi-good bucks. I will not shoot a buck unless he scores 150" and higher and he has to be older than 4 1/2, now there is an exception for bucks that have bad genetics or cull bucks, i will shoot a cull buck that scores 120" as a 4 1/2 or older all day long if given the chance

I would never let a 140 class buck walk anywhere!!! On the farms I hunt in Pa I have a 8pt or better rule that I follow. Not a small 8 pt though

Last season I let a 147 10 pointer 'walk' he was harvested the following night by the landowner. I am hoping to see a 4 1/2 year old and they won't get that old if some of the 3 year olds aren't allowed to go free. Same nite, I also had 2 other 3 1/2 year olds within 20 yards, I have the sheds on one of them, and I saw the other buck on the 2nd to last day of the late bow season, so I am optimistic about the upcoming season.:D

My first tag I'm shooting anything over 130". After that I may get more picky with my second buck tag. Specially if I got pics of a couple of real bruisers in the area. Which I hope I have by the time the season rolls around.

I have never let a 140" buck walk so far.

RE: Letting bucks walk.....

Near my house i wouldnt let anything over 125" walk. The past couple years i've betting shooting the "retard" bucks with messed up racks but now im moving back in the woods further and going where the bigger ones are so i def. wouldnt let a 140" walk up here, Now down at my other land in Buffalo County i can hunt on, yes i'll let him walk cuz we watch bucks from 160"-190" every afternoon. But nothing comes within range until the rut..
