As far as I know here in WV there is no minimum age, but once you are of licenses age (14) you must possess the hunter safety card. Prior to age 14 I think most expect youngsters to be with an adult. Although that doesn't always hold true and more especially when I was growing up.

Here in WI its 12, in Ontario its 16 for non-residents to hunt and I don't know what age for residents.
I was reading that Wisconsin is thinking about going to 10 years old now.

My kids have to 12 years old here in Michigan. My son just turned 12 so I bought him and Edge to hunting with me this year. He does have to take the course yet but he will soon. He's getting his bow for Easter. I can't wait to hit the (deer)trails and kick open the ole pop up blind

And I would support it 100%.....actually, I would rather see it 8 years old.

We've got a mentoring program here in PA that lets kids hunt younger than 12 as long as they pass the course, BUT I think it only applies to certain seasons, and I don't think bow hunting is one.

Rybo, I was talking about hunting in general....not necessarily bow hunting. I agree that 8 may be a little young to bowhunt, but not with a gun.

8 is a little young. But I remember at 8, my dad giving me an old 50# bear compound with three arrows. I would shoot with him before season. It was the coolest thing to me at that time and would look forward to it after school. After that he would take the arrows away and let me keep the bow to practice pulling it back. But how the times have changed.

Youth in my state (Indiana) have to pass a hunter safety course to obtane a hunting licenese, but there is no age restriction for hunting, just a 35 lb pull min on archery equip. My 8 year old son just passed the course by the way
