100 g vs. 125 g broadheads?
 

Building new arrows with a higher FOC and plan to switch from 100 grain tips to 125, but alot of companies don't produce 125 grain heads. Rage is only offered in 100 and so are the new SlickTricks. I've heard some people just add the weights that go between the head and insert but dang, why no love for the 125 grain heads. Unless my memory is failing, I thoughtback in the90's 125 weremore common than 100's now it's the opposite. Did the need for speed drive the change? How many use 125 grain heads?

Everyone had to go lighter/faster. 125 gr became "overkill".

Honestly though IMO at almost all deer hunting ranges, it isn't going to make any real world difference which one you have on the end of your arrow.

Its all about speed today with these bow manufacturer's and with people in general.[:'(] I'll take more pack in my punch and shoot a heavier head any day of the week. I'm currently shooting 125 grain but I think I'll be moving to a 145 grain or better.

I also shoot 125 because of the punch I get out of them. Plus I have a lifetimes collection of 125 heads, so I wouldn't want them to go to waste.

And they are one serious head, especially for trad archers. I am a 125 guy too, more punch on the end of the arrow. Tough to both have excessive speed AND a good arrow weight, which IMO is what you should strive for with hunting arrows. 125 both gives you the FOC and a heavier arrow, two of my favorite things!

Bruce you got me beat, I just built some 200gr Magnus 2 blades! Sure do pack a wallop!

Honestly I use both 100 and 125 grain broadheads. It really depends on the arrow and where I need to go with the FOC. I prefer a minimum of 12% to 15% for broadheads, but I do have a set of FMJ's with Brass HIT inserts that have an FOC of over 20%. They pack a punch, fly nicely, and group very well.

Guess I'm old school...I started with 125 Satellites in the 70s, when I bought my first compound...Went to 125 Thunderheads sometimes in the 80s...I now use either 125 Muzzys or 125 Thunderheads, of course my bow was made in the early 90s, maybe that's why I haven't changed...:D

Now, I still shoot aluminum arrows and shoot fingers as well...I don't shoot over 25 yards...If a fellow wants more speed so he can shoot further than he might want a different set up...

I use 125's on almost everything now. Espicially hogs. NAP Spitfire Mechanicals are made in 125gr also 170gr.
