Well I can tell you one thing, it's not Illinois, our deer hunting pretty much sucks. So I would have to say ummm....the District of Columbia. I hear they are going to open up a handgun season here soon.:D

TEXAS....because they can only run to the FENCE!!!! :D But seriously, I think probably IOWA would be my choice, followed by Wisconsin!!!

I hunt in Brown County, ILLINOIS, I can't compare ILLINOIS hunting season as last year was my first time and I got 2 bucks, but the farm we hunt (2000 plus acres) doesn't get hunted till we get there. I'm sure some people are tresspassing.

If you just want to get a deer and I mean any deer then look into New Jersey, hell you can kill as many antlerless deer as you like, 2 per day

Anywhere but Illinois is your best bet. Look at Iowa or Kansas.

I'll tell you what Ohio is a HORRIBLE deer state you all need to go to Iowa, Illinois and Kansas!!! I guess i can stay behind and deal with the crappy hunting in Ohio!!!!;):D

IOWA and KANSAS, obviously these are the best states, you can't turn on the Outdoor Channel without seeing a big IOWA or KANSAS buck hunt!!!!! Just ask the wild outdoors, gettin' close, h.s., whitetail freaks, dead down wind, realtree, mossy oak, knight & hale, and the primos hunting crews about KS and IA!!!!!!

Im from western Va. and we have some pretty good hunting here actually. A lot of farm land with plenty of oak ridges so the land layout rivals that of what ya see on tv a little bit. I'd love to Iowa, Kansas, Saskatchewan (SP?) and there is just something about that sleeper state of Kentucky I am drawn to.

In some ways this is soooooo, right.

Sorry, no offense intended if you are one of the guys who hunts wildlife, not LIVESTOCK, down there. I know most TX hunters aren't RICH, and do really HUNT, but there are a LOT of the HF guys on line always trying to rationalize the reason for the fence being something other than to contain "THEIR" deer, and manipulate the genetics. Which there may be a couple, but you don't put up $50,000 worth of fence just for recreational hunting.

Hell I don't know too many who see more deer than I do. They're not big....but they're plentiful. We're changing our slogan this year.

i am suprised that no body has mentioned Michigan. we have so many deer that the DNR cannot kill them off fast enough. between the DNR and the cars the numbers are taken down not by hunters.i think michigan is so full of deer that if you do not shoot one it is because you are lazy. the racks are slacking due to the hunting pressure... thatsa whole nother debate..... but seriously Michigan rocks.

i always see huge massive deer each year and on my hunting property it is nothing to see 100-150 deer a night. the only question is where they come out at. p.s. even with the hunting pressure record book bucks are taken off the property on average of 3 years. and seeing them frequently. we have 20 people hunting 150 acres.

I was going to say, why not just ask, "What state are you from?" because you'd get the same response to each question from most people, but looking at the responses and member profiles, I'd have been wrong. I sure love the deer hunting here in WI, but I know Iowa and Kansas are big time deer states too.

That's because the people that live in say Illinois or Ohio do not want their state to be hunted anymore than it already is, so they are saying elsewhere. It is all in good humor though. With that being said, I would have to say Ohio, Iowa, Kansas, Wisconsin, Missouri, Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan, or CANADA. Can anybody guess where I'm from?

Missouri is getting better with the point restriction. I have seen some good bucks in Kentucky but I would have to say Iowa or Wisconsin.

I am sorry to say but there are no more big bucks in the state of Illinois. Other than the pending world record, or at least top 5, buckthat was harvested this past year this state is now only left with spikes and half racks. Looks like people should give Illinois a break for awhile, just to let the bucksgrow a little if you know what I mean.

Yeah, all of the big bucks that were in Illinois were either killed in the early 1990's, or swam the river to seek refuge in Kentucky and Iowa. Sorry to say, but if we ever want to regain our big buck status, we are just going to have to quit hunting, and start managing for those big Illinois cottontails. Yep, don't even bother with Illinois, we're tapped. Nothing left here but a few mangey does and 10,000 out of state hunters trying to kill them.

I don't know guys...If you had asked this question in bow season I think that the comments would be "oh it must be PA" After all, there were some that jested that they were tired of seeing "buck down in PA' posts. I am biased. I live in North Central PA and I love it here. Also, the bucks are getting bigger with point restrictions and people seeing the success that they can bring. I can't lie to you and say that I see the number of deer that I did as a child, but I firmly believe that our herd is healthier as well as our forests.

I figure PA must be America's Hotspot for giant whitetails - it seems like everyone in the damn free world is crammed into the gamelands every Saturday... So, just judging by the huge turnout - SW PA must be "the newplace to be."

If it gets any more crowded around here, the Game Commission is gonna have to start issuing occupancy permits for the Game Lands.
