I too have seen fawns with 2-3 inch spikes but none with a forked rack.

From what I have read, a fawns buttons could harden and look like tiny spikes, but they will NEVERgrow a rack.

Any possibility you saw a picture of a yearlingaxis deer and mistook it for a spotted fawn with antlers?

Could it have been a young Axis deer and not a Whitetail fawn? OOPS, I see AP beat me to it.

ORIGINAL: Double Creek

ORIGINAL: buckeye

I would say it is highly possible.... They do have polished antler as a button buck.... I see no reason why in some cases that it couldn't grow beyond just the polished antler nubs.

Would they grow before or after birth?
Could you imagine giving birth to a 6 point buck?

If the buck was born very early, has great food, no hunitng pressure then yes he can grow a rack

+1 for fawns with antlers. You get an early-dropped fawn with no stress and eating right - and his buttons will push through the hide, and he'll grow a small pedicle with small spikes.

Whether or not those "antlers" arise to your definition of "antlers" is debatable...

But they'll polish and shed them just like any other buck.
