RE: Does the Bow make the Shooter?
I think Kreg hit it on the head with the first reply..."Well, I really dont think that the bow makes the shooter. However, I do think you are shooting better groups because the bow might fit you better and is more comfortable."
It's like anything else, it has to fit you and you have to be comfortable with it.
I used to duck hunt with a guy who was 6'4" and used a short stocked double barrel shotgun. The guy couldn't hit a goose at more than 10 yards and never got a duck on a pass shot. He finally separted with a few bucks and bought a used 870 Remington and added a extented butt plate or cushion. His shooting improved 1000%. Both guns where good but the one just didn't suit/fit his long arms and frame.

OHARCHER, i'm sorry if i misled you. i'm not a 3-d tournament shooter . i'm strickly a hunter with a bow. the higher letoff allows me to practice longer taking more shots. so that i can have better precission shots in the vital area of the deer. the new compound bows today are alot more advanced than they were in 1986 when i first started hunting. and this like yours is my opinion!!!!!!!

RE: Does the Bow make the Shooter?
I have to disagree with you OHarcher on the 80% let off thing VS ones with 50-65%. Speed is the only thing that will be different. The faster bows have the lesser let-off. These new 80% let-off bows have a great wall to shoot up against, so I don't know where your comming from about needing low poundage for 100% back tension? 80% let off bows suck? I don't think so!!!

RE: Does the Bow make the Shooter?
I would also have to somewhat disagree with OHarcher. I have a Pro shooter who uses 80% let-off and has won 4 National Championships. He learned to shoot with 80% and, when I tried to get him to shoot 65%, he bulked and didn't like it.
BTW, he shoots fingers and still prefers 80% with a nice back wall.
It's all in what you get used to and feel most comfortable with.

I agree with Wahya....its not the bow, its all the shooter! Obvioulsy the shooter has to fine tune his/her set up to them! from there on out its what you are capable of cuz your bow is capable of much much more!

It is a fact among pro shooters that low let-off is better!!!!
I have never held a bow with 80% let-off in my hands that I thought had a decent wall.I'm not saying people can not shoot 80% effectively because I know plenty that can,but you will not get the EXPLOSION you would with lower let off.I didn't mean to piss anyone off.
For hunters 80% is great, for field,target,3D it's not that great. If you ever have a chance to shoot or talk to a top notch shooter ask them what they think??
If you think speed is the only trade off in the let-off deal my friend you are badly mistaken.A much crisper release,a steadier sight picture will be acheived with lower let-off plain and simple.
