I Get to spend more time in the woods than most people I know. My boss is so cool when hunting season comes around. I get to leave at two o'clock everyday from september 15th till whenever in the season. I work my but off so it's possible!!!In the lastfour years I have learnedso much from spending the time in the woods. My dad tought me how to look for the right things and notice what I need too. The other half of what I know is from time spent in thedeer woods. No one can teach you what it's like to see and heara buck tending a doe ,or hear the vocalizations that a doe uses tokeep her fawns in check. My dad once told me about how deer will click and I thought he was crazy, till last season I seen and heard it for myself. Thingslike that are why I am soengrossed in bowhunting. It's just that good man.
Good post RuttNutt! I guy don't learn anything sitting on his but, he learns from his own experiences and that of his peers if he's fortunate enough. I was lucky enough to be able to learn allot from my dad, he is one excellent mature buck hunter, his walls are covered with P@Y bucks. I wish I had half of his knowledge. Guy's like my dad, GregH, Shed, Peakrut, Duke and some others on HNI seem to have that big buck instinct. Its something that is earned with time and patience. I hope to some day have that big buck instinct. Hats off to you guys on HNI that shoot these big guys here and there. Respect given!!!!
Yes sir, and I would like to give some props to my pops "sliverflicker" for teaching me to be the jedi I am....And pops, I get your kansas mount when you kick it!!! I dont care what brother and sister say!!!!!
You got one hell of a good old man in Sliverflicker!! He's a good man!

I couldn't vote, none of the categories fit my profile.

I know enough to know that I don't know enough; I can readily admit to that. I am competent enough to be looked upon by my peers as "successful" but I am not adequate enough to keep from being humbled by mature bucks on a seemingly annual basis.

Grasping thetrue pictureconcerningthe life ofmature buck is hard to see clearly because bytheir very naturethey are so enigmatic. Then you have to add to this equationthe fact that there is a limited number of them. At the end of the day regardless of how "good" a guy considers himself to be one needs a good dose of luck to bring one down.

Not well enough, or it would be easy. Well enough to know that if I keep my priorities straight and work smart and hard at it, I will be rewarded. I've always felt in my own personalhunting, theres a higher power involved, I credit my good fortune to the big man upstairs. He's alwaysknown whatI neededin my life to keep me humble and there is nothing that humbles me more than bowhuntingan old savvy whitetailbuck.
