RE: 200 lb doe is that possible?
Sure a doe can reach 200 lbs. I would say very rare, could be 1 in 10000's. I know one thing dragging a 115lb deer out of the woods, you would swear it weighs more. When I see a post that "I shot a ---lb. deer the weight is usually rounded off to a "5" or a "0". I can pretty much assume in alot of cases that the deer weight was just guestimated.

RE: 200 lb doe is that possible?
ORIGINAL: _Dan Robin....Nice bow. Too bad the boys couldn't keep the company together. That doe was 128 dressed. An older doe for sure.90-115 makes up the bulk of does we have shot. Top ends in the 140's. I filmed my daughter shooting a doe this year that limped up behind a bigger doe. I had her shoot the limper cause it obviously was hurt even though it was considerably smaller (in fact, I thought it was a fawn). Ended up being an average 1.5 yr old doe, around 95-100 lbs. No telling how big the lead doe was! Someone made the fish comparison. Couldn't agree more! We shoot a lot of big fish, and we feel we must weigh on the scalein order tostate weights on camera or our website. I am amazed atthe bowfishing photo's I see with supposed wts stated. |
RE: 200 lb doe is that possible?
The reason for me posting a pic was not so much to prove every doe where I hunt is over 200 lb dress weight. The question was is a 200 lb dressed weight doe possible. I do nothave a scale and I realize I am guessing at weight but from pics postedof a nicedeerat 128 lbs dressed I can assume the mature doein my area are larger by maybe 20-40 lbs on average.I have a good friend that hunts northern MN rifle season and finally talked him in to hunting muzzle season down south and he could not believe the size difference between the deer. He was ready to shoot at every yearling that went by because they were big bodied deer were they hunt.I can not prove actual weight and I am not really trying to do that I am only trying to portray the average size does in my area to the one in Robins pic. So what I am trying to say is Yes a 200 lb dressed doe is very possible in southwestern MN.
I guessed Robins deer to be in the 115-125 lbrange which wasnt too far off. Like I said I do not have a scale to prove my point and I realize without one I dont have a leg to stand onbut I dont think I am exaggerating my statements when I guessed the deer I have hanging is around 150 lbs. The buck in the pic I would guess to be around the 185-190 lb range. |
RE: 200 lb doe is that possible?
well i have to agree a 200 lb dressed doe could be possible. but if you dont own a scale dont tell me you have shot a DRESSED doe that 200 or over. the bigest deer i ever shot was a 202 lb DRESSED 9 point buck and he was a beast. my friends so called 200 lb doe wasnt even close to the size of that buck. o by the way just like a lot of you, my friend he dont own a scale either. just like you parkerbuckhunterdeer around the area i hunt grow extra big with all the soy beans and corn around. to be honest i dont think i will ever see a 200 lb DRESSED doe in my lifetime. just like ill pob never see a 200 inch buck. posible yes, likely i dont think so!

RE: 200 lb doe is that possible?
A guy I once knew shot a dow that weighed in over 250lbs (guts in) We couldn't hardly drag it out of the woods. Luckily there were four of us and we took turns. It would have been nice had she had antlers on her head so that we could drag her more easily.
My forearms were burning fromdragging that deer. We even busted a rope trying to get the deer hung. Tom |
RE: 200 lb doe is that possible?
I will be the first to admit I have never weighed a doe in my life. The handfull of mature bucks I have seen weighed generally are 180-240 lbs field dressed. A few are larger, a few smaller. It varies a lot due to the rut and how agressive the buck was, I have seen bucks I swear have dropped 40 lbs in a month from late Oct to late Nov. However, what I know from proccessing deer is I can expect a very 'big' doe from here to have about 65lbs of very well trimmed boneless meat after I am all done. Does are generally really fat in the fall here, I might end up with 15 lbs of trimmings on a 'big' doe also. Still, add all that up and a 180 lb live weight doe is an absolute monster.
I beleive there is much more uniformity in the size of does that there is in the size of bucks, taking into account age. Is that similar to what others see? |
