# of Pins on your hunting set up
How many pins do have on your hunting set up? And Why do you prefer that number?
|
RE: # of Pins on your hunting set up
1 because its adjustable:D
|
RE: # of Pins on your hunting set up
I shoot 5 pins because I like to practice out to 60 yards though I probably would not shoot at a whitetail past 55yds.
|
RE: # of Pins on your hunting set up
3 for now. I would like to try 1 pin in the future tho.
|
RE: # of Pins on your hunting set up
Just one. Set at 25-yards.
For hunting, I won't take a shot past 35 yards or so, and with one pin, I can keep it on the kill-zone from 10 to 35 and still hit it, a little lower at closer distances and a little higher at farther diastances. I like it because it saves me someconfusion at the moment of truth. Now, for target, I've got a nice 5-pin sight. |
RE: # of Pins on your hunting set up
I currently have 3 but I have every intention on purchasing the new G5 Optix XR sight. It has 3 fixed pins and on precision adjustable for longer shots. Sounds perfect, having the ability to use a pin at longer distances but not having to look at 6 or 7 pins and trying to pick which one you need to put on the target.

RE: # of Pins on your hunting set up
I had five, but added another so I could have a 70 yard pin and not give up the 20 yard pin, which I kinda need for turkeys.

RE: # of Pins on your hunting set up
I have 1 pin an it is17 yds. I don't over shoot on deer anymore like I have in the pass a few times. I hate to spine shoot a deer. I use to have my pin at 25 yds an always shot a little high but since I've moved it that has not happen again.

RE: # of Pins on your hunting set up
I have 5 now, but may go down to 4. I'm not sure yet.
|
RE: # of Pins on your hunting set up
I actually use 2 but since there wasnt an option for 2 I chose three cause that is what it originally was.
I use 2, 20 and 30 yards. I figure 30 is my max, however I have been thiking about taking my 20 off and lowering my 30 to 25 and compensate with the yardage. |
RE: # of Pins on your hunting set up
3 because this is the ONLY sight that has enoughleft or right adjustment
|
RE: # of Pins on your hunting set up
3 pins, 0-30, 30-40, 40-50.
|
RE: # of Pins on your hunting set up
4. 15-25-35-43.thats whatthe sightcame with. i like 15 cause i don't shoot as high on close shots. and 43 cause thats the most i can get in my backyard.

RE: # of Pins on your hunting set up
I have 5 and it isn't too much clutter. I think people that think 5 pins is confusing cannot drive and drink coffee at the same time.
![]() p.s. I'd rather have it and not need it then need it and not have it! ![]() |
RE: # of Pins on your hunting set up
5 pins during the off season for practicing at longer ranges. When hunting I only have 3 pins and only use 2 of them for hunting, 15yds & 25yds (max range), and the 3rd one I use for practicing at 35yds during the season.
|
RE: # of Pins on your hunting set up
1 pin (pendulum) dont have to guess yardage
|
RE: # of Pins on your hunting set up
5, because I hunt and shoot 3D with the same setup. I like to be able to put a pin on or very close to where I want my arrow to end up.
I haven't ever used the 60 yard pin on an animal but the 50 yarder has definitely paid off. |
RE: # of Pins on your hunting set up
I have three on my set up now but I will be going to a 5 pin before I hunt this year.
|
RE: # of Pins on your hunting set up
5, 20-30-40-50-60, My max range accuratlly is 50 but im getting better at 60.
|
RE: # of Pins on your hunting set up
I've always used 3, but the new sight came with 4. Doubt that I'll ever use the 4th.
|
RE: # of Pins on your hunting set up
5 pins
20-30-40-50-60 |
RE: # of Pins on your hunting set up
1 pin for me. Didnt like the confusion of multiple pins at the moment of truth. I guess I cant drive and drink coffee at the same time.:D
|
RE: # of Pins on your hunting set up

My G-5 ME has 4 pins, that's why. I used to shoot with 7. I practice all summer with them. Why change for the hunting situation?

RE: # of Pins on your hunting set up
One pin HHA OL5500, great sight
|
RE: # of Pins on your hunting set up
One pin for me. Where I live and hunt now is thick and most all my shots are under 25 yards so no need for another pin. If and when i move back out west I will either have more or another adjustable sight.
|
RE: # of Pins on your hunting set up

RE: # of Pins on your hunting set up
Just 1 pin as of 4 years ago.
I used to have a 20 yard and a 30 yard pin. I changed after I used the wrong pin on a nice 8-pointer in the heat of the moment. Fortunately, the deer came back for a second shot 5 minutes later and I got him. I also spend more time using my range finder (now that I have one), instead of pacing off my yardage. This gets an accurate shotting distance to know where to hold the pin on the deer. Also the later technology bows with higher speeds, helps to flatten out your shotting distance. Thankfully, I have yet to have another problem since. |
