RE: If you could....
mine would have been what I didnt do... late into the season last year after I had already killed one nice buck.... I was bowhunting during the rifle season here during late November. Temp were really cold.. teens, and below zero at night...
From acreek bottomstand Iwas hunting,I started seeing/via binoculars about 600 yards away...a doe family group frequenting this one particular edge of an old clearcut . After glassing these does from my position I think it was two days in a row, I told myself"You need to get up there asap, hang a stand on that mountainside edgeand wait to see what kind of buck shows up on those does"... Well I didnt do it the next day and I could have, I feel I chose the easier way out ofjust hunting another "good" stand instead of doing the work and getting set upon that mountain side clearcut....The season was starting to wear on me a bit and I got lazy.....I chose to hunt a stand I had already had hung. While sitting in the stand that I chose, I could now glass about 1000 yards away and still watch that same edge.. SURE enough.. on the third day a whopper buck, (150 plus)..showed up down there with those does. All I could do was sit and watch him in my binocs from about 1/2 a mile away..Heworked those doesright on that clear cut line for a good solid 5 minutes out in the open.. YOU Dont see this much here, especially during rifle season...I didnt listen to that little voice insideand I should have.. I ended up seeing one more really nice 135-140 class buck there two days later.. so I missed out on at least two great bucks in 3 days.. simply because i didnt follow my intuition... I think the fact that is was bitter cold and that I had options... I got lazy and chose the easier option. |
RE: If you could....
Not something I'd take back, but more of what I would have brought. I wish I wouldn't have forgotten my treestand strap on one of my hunting trips to ohio. That was a heartbreaking adventure and missed opportunity. :([:@]

RE: If you could....
I wouldnt have passed on a deceant buck waiting for the monster to come by this year.
|
RE: If you could....
i would've used buckshot in stead...
|
RE: If you could....
I wouldn't have moved from MI to Chicago...really cuts down the time I was able to spend in the stand!
|
RE: If you could....
ORIGINAL: ihunt1975 I could have hunted more. Basically confined from hunting anywhere but my backyard because of my eye problem(not seeing well enough to drive). How well were/are you able to aim if you can't see well enough to drive? |
RE: If you could....
Nothing. My season went well. Much better than last year. I tagged a nice deer or hog every time I went out, with one exception, opening day. I shoot nothing on opening day. So I guess i could have stayed at home opening day. That is all I could think of changing.:D

ORIGINAL: MN/Kyle ORIGINAL: Charlie P Wish I had gone every chance I had. Hopefully it wasn't my last season. My back surgery doesn't work I may never hunt again. |
RE: If you could....
I shouldn't of checked my camera's so much.

RE: If you could....
ORIGINAL: nybowhunter Hey whitetail..I am gonna say just the opposite. I would hunt a stand in the morning, get discouraged and switch spots for the afternoon. Sure enough one of my hunting buddies would see deer at the spot I left. It happened to me all season. Fianlly one day, I remained patient and got a small buck! Next year I am going to stay with my original plan for the day. I hunt on private property and we have stands all over the place, so it is easy to second guess yourself and start moving around. Especially when other guys are seeing deer. |
RE: If you could....
ORIGINAL: whitetailbowhunter The thing is I didn't changed spots. I hunted the same stand for over 2 months everyday! I would have shot the 140" 10pt that came in only minutes before I killed my deer. I could have shot him at 42 yards instead of waiting for him to get closer. Thena few minutes later I would have shot the deer I did shoot and woulda been tagged out in OK.:D:D:D But hey, it all worked out and I got the bigger of the two, the 10 will be back next year... hopefully;). |

ORIGINAL: twildasin I would love a second chance at the big one I missed. [:@] |

RE: If you could....
Walking into an area where I know there was a good buck, sweating from the heat, hanging a stand and hunting it. I know better. Next year I will not sweat going in!!! I will wait for cooler days.

RE: If you could....
Had a 40 yard shot at the boar of a lifetime . Just thought he might come closer and only saw him for 10 seconds. Thought I'd wait for a better angle, cleaner shot . Should of took the shot[:@]

RE: If you could....
i wish i would have been more patient i found myself getting antsy and moving around alot. dont know why.

RE: If you could....
I wish my dad would have been with me when i took my first buck...

RE: If you could....
I kind of had a let down after I arrowed three deer in 10 days this year..I wish I would have hunted harder from Nov 10th-20th but I was so worn out from work, that during the last 10 days of my vacation, I just hunted every other day and the other days I kept my kids from daycare and took them to the movies and played with them......on second thought, I wouldn't have hunted harder.....being with my kids with no work was just too much fun.

RE: If you could....
This year......... ah, nothing. If I would have come to full draw instead of waiting for a better shot, I may have had a chance at a big non-typical. As it stands, I took a nice 170s typical 2 days later, so I wouldn't change a thing.

RE: If you could....
Shot a doe one night when it was getting dark, and I didn't wait long enough before I tried to recover. It was a good hit with lots of blood but she jumped and ran when I got close to her. Tried to trail her the next morning but she went too far into property that I don't have permission on.

RE: If you could....
The only thing I would change if I could would be the timing of my decision to change the angle of my stand while hunting in Alberta. When you get dropped off (via quad)at your stand site in the dark you climb the tree steps and set your stand, I was using a LW Assault. When it got light onthe 2nd morning,I thought that I needed to turn the stand to the right just a bit to have the best view and shooting lanes. I thought I'd wait until around 9:30AM to do this.
Talk about timing! When I was hanging my bow toturn the stand I hear a loud rustling in a thicket to my left, I turn to see anice 150'' 10pt spin around and bolt the way it had come. If only I'd have waited a while longer to move that stand.[:@]Oh well, there's always '08.:D |
RE: If you could....
honestly i had a great season for what i had to work with this year, the only thing that went wrong was my shot at the coyote that i just grazed 30 min before i killed my buck, almost doubled. If only i had that shot back [&o]

RE: If you could....
I, too, had a great season. Got my first wild turkey with a bow. Shot two mule deer bucks, both 5 X 5's - one is just barelyabove the Pope and Young minimum. Did not, however, get an antelope. I know spot and stalk goat hunting is difficult . . . . but I would have gotten it done twice if I had just kept the laser rangefinder around my neck instead of in the pack. Had two chances where I underestimated the distance by four or five yards - just enough to cause a very low hit in one instance and a near miss in another - at about 65 yards.
