ORIGINAL: *JB* Now, I think your analogy of basketball hoops and baseball fences is a good one, but backward. I don't think the folks who aren't shooting big bucks are saying they don't want anyone too, but they want it to be more possible. So it's be like the short guy asking to have the hoop lowered to 8' and the baseball guy asking to have the fence moved in. It's about having the odds stacked more in your favor. The thought process on moving gun season out of the rut is the same. Yes, some bucks will still be shot, but hopefully some ofthe love crazed boys will have come to their senses enough to avoid the gunners a little better and get to be bigger boys next year. I don't see any of this happening because in just about all states gun hunting for deer is the DNR's bread and butter. Gun hunters will always be kept happy and that is because they are the majority. When you think about it, that's kind of the way it should be. Cater to the majority and help the minority where you can. This country's had that backward for a long time, but that is a whole other argument for the politics section. he says Gun hunters get only a few weeks to hunt. So the rut is the best time for them. SoI would ask...wouldhe then be opposed to the idea of ...extending gun season and being BANNED from using his gun during the rut?? |

RE: boy some bow hunters just make me sick
I have nothing against gun hunting for deer. I just choose not to hunt deer with a gun. I also would vote for gun seasons to stay shorter than bow seasons because I love to bowhunt, therefore I am being selfish in a sense. I imagine most hunters who gun hunt only would want longer gun seasons and shorter bow seasons. Its all relative. In the end as long as hunters of all weapons used can stand together in battles against those who would wish to take hunting away, its all good.
By the way............I will be using my shotgun this spring turkey season. I am just not experienced enough as a turkey hunter to use a bow and with only one week to try to kill a turkey, I need the shotgun. |

ORIGINAL: Germ ORIGINAL: Dubbya Wow, I apologize for even starting my thread which sparked this thread which in turn sparked the "What's more challenging thread." All I wanted to do was to vent about how the DOW states it's claims and doesn't do anything. That's all... Let's lock all these threads and move on. |

BTW I gave to gun to a youth hunter, brand new 835 Mossberg only shot 1's. He bought a slug barrel for it and whack a nice deer during the youth season. I could not be happier[8D] |

RE: boy some bow hunters just make me sick
I don't see anything wrong with those three scrubs popping those little deer.I gotta bet most guys on here who have hunted for any length of time shot a rat buck with his rifle at some point. Most of those guys havenow set their standards higher which is great. It always seems like we say that any deer is a trophy but that we don't mean it. I don't think deflating a little deer every year shows your prowess but nothing wrong with it unless the law says so.
Bow hunters ARE elitistand I for one am proud of that. I work out my bowhunting plans all year and I sure don't do that when I'm going shotgun hunting. I end up sitting in a stand with a name.I likethe different taste of gun hunting but it's nothing compared to the sound of crunching leaves appraoching as a plann comes together. Oh Yes.. My sucess rate during archery was a heck of a lot better than my gun hunting friends who went out opening morning until almost 8AM.. Chase away any active participant in the hunting arena and were gonna shoot ourselves in the foot. Well it's dusk and that dang yote failed totrot across the backyard and I was ready but I wasn't holding a bow. |
