Leave the quiver on or take it off?
If you are hunting do you leave it on or take it off. What is your reason?
|
RE: Leave the quiver on or take it off?
Deoends on what stand im in and what mood im in really i have no reasoning for either, as long as it doesnt feel off balanced or make unwanted noise/vibration it all good
|
RE: Leave the quiver on or take it off?
I always take it off. It's too bulky. I end up hitting my arrows on every limb, branch, and on my stand. If I leave it on, I can't hang my bow on the tree the way I like. And if it's on, I also can't rest it on my lap. And it throws off my bows balance, affecting accuracy.
The only reason I'd keep it on is for spot and stalk, but I rarely do that. |
RE: Leave the quiver on or take it off?
It all depends on if I am stalking or if I am sitting, I deffantly take it off when I am in a stand of blind.
|
RE: Leave the quiver on or take it off?
Never have it on I say. I have mine attached to my hunting pack

RE: Leave the quiver on or take it off?
I hunt with mine on for one reason........follow up shots. I can fire off follow up shots pretty quickly.....and I've emptied my quiver mre than once.
My '07 buck I just got back......I got off 4 shots at him......hitting him 3 times in a span of maybe 20 seconds. If I'd had to fumble with a quiver elsewhere.......I KNOW I couldn't have done that. |
RE: Leave the quiver on or take it off?
My vote goes along with PA/Hardwoods.... Just last week I took my quiver mount off my bow... permanently. My back quiver is on order.
|
RE: Leave the quiver on or take it off?
Right now my quiver stays on my bow... Am thinking of getting a removable one for next year though....
|
RE: Leave the quiver on or take it off?
Jeff, You tell it like it is....I laugh every time I see the so called pros on t.v. fumbling, stumbling around trying to get that second arrow to shoot.
|
RE: Leave the quiver on or take it off?
Mine is attached to both of my bows to where it requires tools to remove. So it stays on. Doesn't add much weight. And the arrows don't weigh much either.
|
RE: Leave the quiver on or take it off?
only thing i use my quiver for is to carry my arrows to and from the stand. dont shoot with it on and dont hunt with it on. just somethin else to get in the way...and, i lay my bow on the side across the front of my Viper...cant do that with the quiver on.
i have practiced with it on and has no ill effect on the shot...just dont do it real regularly because i dont hunt with it on there...highly doubt i ever get a shot walking to my stand...but i do practice with it once in a while just incase... might take me an extra few seconds to grab an arrow, but in that couple seconds, i can collect myself and make a better second shot if its present... |
RE: Leave the quiver on or take it off?
How fast can you get off a second ......third.....fourth shot......if you had to?
That's the only reason I hunt with a quiver on. If I wanted convenience.....I'd hunt with it off, too. I practice with it on.....hunt with it on. I've emptied it before. |

RE: Leave the quiver on or take it off?
For convenience, I wish I could keep it on. I've experimented enough to know that my groups open right up with the quiver left on my bow, however. :(
|
RE: Leave the quiver on or take it off?
If I'm in my ladder stand I take it off because of the wind. If in my blind it comes off.
|
RE: Leave the quiver on or take it off?
Always off unless spot and stalking, but an arrow is always loose and within quick reach if I need it.Still waiting for that hunt where I can shoot a doe and then immediately nock another arrow to shoot the buck trailing her.

RE: Leave the quiver on or take it off?
Off. Better accurracy.

RE: Leave the quiver on or take it off?
thats a hard one to say when hunting but I prefer to take it off!
|
RE: Leave the quiver on or take it off?
I take mine off when stand hunting.
i have an Alpine 5 arrow quiver, and I bought a device that I can screw into the tree and attatch the quiver to. That way I have my arrows close by and easy to get at, and out of the quiver. |
RE: Leave the quiver on or take it off?
I usually take my quiver off when I'm hunting from the ground. I've always practiced with my quiver off, so I thought it would be a good idea to leave it off during a hunt. When I hunt froma tree stand I usually leave it attached to my bow. (So I don't accidentally drop it....[8D])

RE: Leave the quiver on or take it off?
I hang mine in the tree!
|
RE: Leave the quiver on or take it off?
I went to a removeable one piece quiver this past year. I always left my quiver on , but I have had deer catch my bright fletching moving when I am trying to get into shooting position.
Never again. |

RE: Leave the quiver on or take it off?
Alway practice with it off, so I always hunt with it off.
|
RE: Leave the quiver on or take it off?
I take mine off. No reason, other than I just dont like the feel of my bow when I leave it on.
|
RE: Leave the quiver on or take it off?
I take mine off because my arrows are stick out from the frame of the bow by about 3", so it is a little cumbersome if I want to rest the bow on my climber rail. I think I prefer it on the bow, but right now, just not practical to do it that way.
|
RE: Leave the quiver on or take it off?
I think it depends a lot on preference. My Quiver is always on, whether I am practicing, spot & stalk hunting, or in a treestand. It helps me keep everything consistent and it doesn't bother me negatively a bit. Plus there is a many reasons why a hunter might need to take another shot, so having an extra arrow in the same 'secure' location, which is easily accessible, is always a good idea.
|
RE: Leave the quiver on or take it off?
I never put mine on. I have it setup so that it rides my hip on the way to the stand site and then I attach it to the tree above my stand when I get there.
|
RE: Leave the quiver on or take it off?
I used to have a 2 piece non detachable quiver and had now problems shooting w/ it on...
I now have a detachable so I am sure I will be taking it off in the stand now. |
RE: Leave the quiver on or take it off?
Not to single you out gmmat but why would you ever have to shoot four arrows at a deer? I hope your a better shot than that. I happen to leave mine also but more or less for transportation reasons and less stuff hanging in different spots in the tree. I can see maybe a second shot at an animal but four or five not very realistic in my opinion.

RE: Leave the quiver on or take it off?
I always take it off. I use the quikee quiver caddys and have a whole bunch of them. I like it off out of the way. I can lay the bow across my lap or hold it in position for a long time without moving. For followup shots it is firmly mounted to the tree and I am very picky about it's position, it must be out of the way for shooting and easily accessible. The second shot scenario is lower in priority than being out of the way for that first shot. For all the deer I have killed with a bow I have only had one followup shot on a spined deer. A far as all the deer I missed over the years, I have never got a second shot and it wasn't because I couldn't get an arrow nocked. It's just what works for me.
|
RE: Leave the quiver on or take it off?
I carry my arrows in a hip quiver, and sitting in a tree I take it off and hang it in the tree. If I spent the money for a good light wt. bow quiver I might leave it on, Most of the cheaper ones I've had in the past are too bulky and noisy.
|
RE: Leave the quiver on or take it off?
I've always kept them on my bow, even when I had the detachable type quivers. Now, all of my bows now are set up with two piece non detachable quivers as they tend to hold the arrows closer to the bowand are more secure (no rattles, vibration). I too like the convenience on the arrows right at my fingertips.
|
RE: Leave the quiver on or take it off?
I never attach mine either...just personal preference I guess. Shouldn't matter either way. If you are going to shoot at a deer with it left on your bow, you should practice with it attached.
|
RE: Leave the quiver on or take it off?
I hang mine on my realtree easy hanger. I just slide it on between the arrows and the quiver and it just hangs there within reach if I need another arrow. I had two instances where i had to get more than one arrow for a shot this year. One was i heard deer coming and got my bow ready but when i swung my bow around i hit a limb and the arrow fell to the ground. I'm an idiot and did this twice, and finally by the 3rd arrow the deer were about 30 yrds away. My deer I shot this year I unfortunetly had to make a follow up shot on. I deflected off a limb i didnt see and hit it in the leg, then quickly got another arrow a double lunged him and he was down within 35 yrds. Luckily my Guardian is so quiet he didnt know where it came from.:D

RE: Leave the quiver on or take it off?
I practice with it on and leave it on while hunting.
It's called consistancy and taking any variable out of the equation. I have had 2 accounts while hunting, that I've needed a second arrow in my hand Due to my inexperience when strating to archery hunt and hitting branches. Moral of this story is clear your lane(s) and only commit to the choosen lanes, as during the heat of the moment or @ dusk, you can not see those tiny twigs in your arrows path. I would hate to have additional movement at an inopportune time, like needing a second arrow. As Forrest Gumps said... S*** Happens! |

RE: Leave the quiver on or take it off?
i leave mine on......in case i need to get to another arrow quickly
|
RE: Leave the quiver on or take it off?
I now leave mine on...This year I had to sneak an arrow past a tree to hit a doe. Needless to say I hit the tree. But the doe stood there looking at me. Until I bent down to pick up another arrow. Then she left. If I had my quiver on my bow I could have nocked a new one without any major movements....therefore I will leave my quiver on from now on.
