Both eyes open, Or 1 closed?

When shooting your bow with a peep site, do you guys shut one eye, or leave both open?

I actually believe that I am more accurate with both eyes open.

I was taught one eye closed, but with the deer season being 8 months away i was thinking of trying both open.

I KNOW I am more accurate with both eyes open. I can see the target and the pin better. Plus my balance is much better with both eyes open. Better balance means less pin float.

Try standing on one foot with one eye open. Now try it with both eyes open. Your balance will be better with both eyes open.

When I started shooting I didn't know any better and I closed one eye.My accuracy improved overnight when I opened up both eyes.

How do you look through a little round hole (the peep) that is very close to one eye and see through it with both eyes? Or do you learn to fixate one eye with the peep and the other on the target? If you hav'nt guessed by now I shoot with one eye closed:D.

You don't look through the peep with both eyes, being I shoot right handed, I look through the peep with my right eye and my left eye is focused towards the target. Thisallows me a better view of my target, and it also seems to keep my sight/pins in better focus and they appear to be brighter, not to mention that it allows better balance while standing on the platform of a treestand. I use to shoot with one eye and it was tough to change but it was definetly worth it.

Judging from his HNI Indoor league scores, I'd say Mobow shoots with both eyes CLOSED. [8D]

Both eyes open only if the eye looking through the peep is your dominant eye.

Rick,

That's how I do it. I have no trouble keeping both my eyes open. I can concentrate on my peep alignment and shot locationwith the aiming eye andstill keep the other eye open and looking at the target as well. It also helps with (for me) to see the target better in low light.

It's the same as you would shooting a pistol or abird gun, keep both eyes open.

The only time I'll close one eye is when I'm shooting my rifle (scoped or iron sights) but that's ONLY AFTER I've acquired my target.

Started with both open about 3 years ago and it really did improve my shooting (or maybe it was that I picked up a Hoyt and puta Bowtech to sleep):D

if you can shoot with both open i'm sure it would be better but i am right handed , left eye dominate so i find it hard to shoot with both open . i close my dominate eye but i
still shoot very well

I voted for both eyes open.....I bought a new Diamond Triumph in September 2006. I never realized how fast the new bows were until I tried following my arrow. I had an old XI and never had this problem b/c it was soooo slow. Also, I changed to bi-focals the same monthand thought itwas the glasses and myfast new bow were the reason I couldn't see the arrow anymore. Then, I was reading here about keeping both eyes open while shooting and I discoved I was closing my left eye while practicing. Once I opened my left eye, I could see my arrow andrealized my problem. I am left eye dominant and have struggled with aiming my bow and following a deer. SO...this past year I practice just about every day from August to October totrain my left eye to stay open. What a difference...I could follow my arrow once again and I became a more accurate shot. I finalyy became more confident with my bow! Guess what...I shot a buck this year and under pressure, I think I closed my eye, b/c I never saw where I hit that deer. Old habits die hard.....but....maybe another year of practicing and I'll get it right next year.

Both eyes closed......... I like to go by sound.

im left eye dominant, right hand shooter

so I have to draw back, close one eye, get the pins in the area, then open my other eye and foccus on the tartet. Otherwise you see 2 sets of pins and you might aim on the wrong one!

Both open here I find it a lot easier to get on target faster with both eyes open.

Both eyes open for me also. It seems like it's much easier to hold the pin steady on target. I'm getting better at drawing, anchoring and settling the pin with both eyes open, but I sometimes still find myself closing the left eye for a second to make sure the pin is properly centered in the peep, then opening the left eye and settling the pin... especially at longer yardagewhen every factor becomes more critical.

All depends on eye dominance, as thethread seems to be showing. I personally could never shoot with both eyes open until father time started catching up with me and one eye became more dominant.

I tried shooting with both eyes open before, than my left one closed, and and my groups were noticeably better with both open.

I shoot with both open,it gives better depth perception....

RE: Both eyes open, Or 1 closed?

I am a left eye dominate right handed shooter, so I shoot with my left eye closed. Changing over to your dominate eye does not mean you are going to shoot any better using a site, unless you actually have vision problems with your shooting eye. Some of the best shooters in the world shoot with their non dominate eye!
Shooting with both eyes open will give you a bigger field of view, but not necessarily make you a better shot.

I shoot a shotgun left handed for upland bird hunting because of the bigger field of view on quick moving targets, but shoot just as good right handed if I close my left eye.

If I was young and going to shoot trad gear instinctively, I would teach myself to shoot with my dominate eye for the snap shots, the same reasons I shoot a shotgun left handed. But since I am not, and the last league I was on I held a mid 280's average with a 73 pound recurve, I will just continue to close my dominate eye!

Mind and bodycoordination should overrule eye dominance unless you actually have a vision problem in your shooting eye, However you do have a better field of view shooting with both eyes open.

I have always shot with one eye open, with all this talk about shooting with both eyes open, I might try shooting with them both open. How do you tell wich eye is your dominent eye?
