When Arrows Meet Diamond Plated Steel!
Another small HNI get together/shoot.
bowtechben, BPBowhunter, myself, my buddy Nate and his wife shot the indoor 3D shoot again this week. Each week the shoots gets more difficult as they are running leagues as well. BPBowhunter, bowtechben and Brians daughter looking over the coarse. ![]() Brian (BPBowhunter) before his shot at a Reinhart skunk, ![]() Brian after his shot on the skunk. ;) [8D] ![]() But he and Ben came back with a bedded buck. ![]() One of the spining targets: ![]() Nate and Renee, I won't mention she whipped two of these guys. ;) :D [8D] ![]() bowtechben shooting at the final target, a 29 yard spinning skunk! ![]() And the SOB skunk! The sound of foam is always a good sound on this target. Notice, there are only 3 arrows in the target and 5 shooters. ;) [8D] ![]() And now what the thread title is for: :D [8D] After the 32 targets Nate was up 1 on me. Target 33 is/was a option only target. It was 1/4" diamond plated steel target with an upside down V cut into it. IF you shot it, you had the possibility of adding points to your score. From 10, 8, or 5. Since I was one down on Nate I was obligated to go for it! IT was shot at 30 Yards! I was up first, I thought, what the hell, it was all or nothing so I went for the 10. At the shot I heard arrow meeting steel and everyone had their binos up and hooted and yelled you got it, a ten! What happened was my arrow nicked the very edge of the steel plate and richocet'd into and stuck in the scoring area! Nate said you SOB, now I(he) has to shoot it too...LMAO, so I was up 9. Nate had to go for the 10 or he lost and we put up another $5 on the outcome of the day from the first target...LOL At the shot, his arrow hit the steel plate and exploded. I was watching through my binos and said "Nate, your arrow did the same thing mine did, it hit the edge, richocet'd in but didn't stick...LOL Okay, guys are guys, and Ben was one up on Brian so Brian went for it. His arrow fell just out of the 8 ring and nailed a 5 so that put him up 4 on Ben. Now Ben who didn't want to shoot it had too...guys will be guys and he went for it. Slam! Carbon arrow meets steel...bye bye arrow. Renee wasn't going to be outdone by the guys no how so she shoots a perfect arrow onto the 10 ring line and scores a solid 10 the right way! ! ! !! We were all yoopin it up and laughing. A great time, a great time. Here's the steel plate with our arrows! ![]() Pulling our arrows we actually found Nates insert and point in the scoring area but the arrow bouced out. We score Nate with the 10 since his point was in the scoring area so it counted, for us it certainly did so I paid Nate the $5 for winning 1 up. ! ! LMAO. Anyway, obviously my arrow (ACC shown the highest in the picture) was slightly bent.....of course I had to do it again! So at 30 yards with bent arrow I shot it again..CRACK! ! ! !LMAO ! ! ! What a beautiful flower! ![]() ![]() |
RE: When Arrows Meet Diamond Plated Steel!
sounds like you had lots of fun
THATS WHAT ITS ALL ABOUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
RE: When Arrows Meet Diamond Plated Steel!
Ha thats crazy...look like yall had a fun day
|
RE: When Arrows Meet Diamond Plated Steel!
Great day again. Didn't shoot nearly as well as I did last week and I will be the first to admit that I was one of the guys that Nate's wife Renee whooped me. She is a great archer. I donated an arrow before our round to the diamond plate monster so the second one hurt even more. (thanks for that Brian, just had to make me try for it.:D) All broken arrows aside, I will be back for more pain whenever. Had a great time guys thanks for a fun afternoon.
PS Rob, my bud mike was itching to know what happened and was already asking if we were going next week[8D]. And thanks for lunch again bro. |
RE: When Arrows Meet Diamond Plated Steel!
That's a grat story.
NCHunterman and I shot an outdoors 3D tournament, today. We didn't finish great....but we sure finished FAST....lol.;) Looks like you guys had a great time. Kudos. |
RE: When Arrows Meet Diamond Plated Steel!
It looks like a lot of fun and an oppurtunity to meet some great people who share the same interests. Should I hesitate to do it because of my lack of experience? I don't want to be embarrased by my skills or lack there of.....
|
RE: When Arrows Meet Diamond Plated Steel!
m77...I thought maybe the same thing when I went for the first time, super glad i went. Met some quality people and had a blast.
|
RE: When Arrows Meet Diamond Plated Steel!
Very cool, this is my second year now getting into the sport and I'm liking it so I think I might do it because I want to get better at it. I guess it's just like joining a soft ball league for the first time right?
|
RE: When Arrows Meet Diamond Plated Steel!
You bet a great day was had by everyone, and yes like Ben I'm man enough to admit Renee kicked my butt. She put that arrow in the 10 slot like it was nothing, great archer indeed. Sorry Ben for costing you that arrow, but you know what they say, boys will be boys. [8D]I too did not shoot as well as I did last week, but I had a blast today, and my 9 year old daughter "Katie"who helped us keep scoreis ready to go again. My work schedule will keep me from attending the next two weeks, but I will be ready to go after that.
Thanks again for a great day. Brian |
RE: When Arrows Meet Diamond Plated Steel!
That sure is pretty
you going to put that in a pot? So you lost a 15.00 arrow on a 5.00 bet . Sounds like you all had a good time, thanks for sharing the pics with us. |
RE: When Arrows Meet Diamond Plated Steel!
ya you got it...where ya from?
|
RE: When Arrows Meet Diamond Plated Steel!
That is so cool. when I was younger I used to shoot with a friend a lot. we would challenge each other with difficult shots like lining up so we had to shoot between two trees with a 3" gap. Pressure shots during practice are fun and made me a better hunter.
|
RE: When Arrows Meet Diamond Plated Steel!
That sounds like a blast! We went to a shoot today and last year this same shoot had the 40th target as a steel rabbit with a hole in the vitals about 4" in diameter and you had to shoot through it into a block target. There was about 50 broken arrows in a trash can next to it...lol:DThey didnt have it this year for some reason.[&:]
Me and Mo Bowhnter did manage to shoot through a tree today that was just inches to the left of the target. My Goldtip CAA lives to see another day luckily. Matt's Proo 22 not so much.:D |
RE: When Arrows Meet Diamond Plated Steel!
that reminds me ofmy bow shop, they make alot of hard shots that if you miss you brake your arrow so you have to buy new ones from them ;)
|
RE: When Arrows Meet Diamond Plated Steel!
Looked like it was fun for all...wish I had a indoor within 70 miles of my place...
|
RE: When Arrows Meet Diamond Plated Steel!
I went to an indoor shoot today. the first round was the worst round i have ever shot and the second round was the best round ive ever shot:eek:. oh well i still have ALL my arrows i went with. Pisst, we dident have any metal or spinning targets.
|
RE: When Arrows Meet Diamond Plated Steel!
I was with Dan at the shoot. And i did ok. I would have been screwed if we had spining thagets and metal....
|
RE: When Arrows Meet Diamond Plated Steel!
To bad you guys live so far away, I wouldn't have any trouble "donating" some arra's too:D
|
RE: When Arrows Meet Diamond Plated Steel!
Looks like ya'll a good time. As stated, Jeff and I shot today it was my first 3-D shoot in 13 years.
Jeff- Sorry if I rushed things today, I'm a newbie, my apologies. |
RE: When Arrows Meet Diamond Plated Steel!
Chesterfield, MI. I wonder where I can find a good 3-D tourney where I live?
|
RE: When Arrows Meet Diamond Plated Steel!
NC....not an issue. We just ran through there pretty quick. Not sure it affected our score........just an observation. It was a lot of fun.
|
RE: When Arrows Meet Diamond Plated Steel!

RE: When Arrows Meet Diamond Plated Steel!
ORIGINAL: crazycoonhunterNE sounds like you had lots of fun THATS WHAT ITS ALL ABOUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OKbowhunter20, crazy fun, :D Ben, I had a great time, honestly, of the 3 times we've shot it, today may have been the funnest, I'm not sure why, I really enjoyed myself to day. Renee a great gal and it's not her first time shooting a bow as we saw. She's more of a indoor gal and usually is sponsored. She hunts on her own when her husband is out guiding and does well. You should see the buck she scored last year on her own! ![]() And picking up lunch for everyone was my pleasure. Jeff, we'll have to try to get there next time your up. It's tough to fit everything in tho, hunting, wive's time and shooting..LOL M77man, if you ever get a chance, take advantage and go. It's for all shooting abilities and it'll make you better. The most important thing is to have fun. Sliverflicker, lol, it's more than the $5...I've spent more for less. [8D] BPBowhunter, Brian, had a great time bud, like mentioned to Ben, Renee's a great gal and her 10 on the steel plate sure was pretty! Put all to shame on that one. Your daughter Katie is a sweet heart too, I enjoyed having her along to keep scores and help. Keep her in the interest because I think she's going to be a great hunting partner some day! magicman54494, your absolutely right. It will make you a better shooter/hunter! MOmightymite, I like novelty shoots like that and the one you mentioned. Each week here they change the targets and offer another "difficulty" level as they are coming to an end with their indoor leagues. We just get to take advantage of their setup each week as it progresses. Last week there was a recurve hanging where you had to shoot two targets. ABarOfSoap, Don't know if that's what they want..LOL but there was a pile of injured arrows laying there. [8D] ranger56528, I have to travel about 40 minutes for this shoot, well work it. Hunter Dan7, lol Dan, no steel huh? This was the first I saw it. We won't get to shoot next weekend as I have to work, I'm kinda anxious to see what they have the week following, perhaps Kevlar on all the targets..LOL buckeye, would have loved to have had ya Scott. In fact, I can think of a pile of guys for a little HNI smackdown shoot! NChunterman, fantastic, another HNI shoot in NC. See if you can make it when I come down in April. Jeff's having a HNI Party! :D buckmaster, Aaron, is that excuses I'm reading there...LOL See ya in April. :) Sideways, LOL I know...... MeanV2, lol, oh comon, you probably have a pile of arrows laying around. Another great moment and Brian can confirm this, the target after the spining frog was a deer that was behind the frog. When the frog spun, Nates arrow crossed the 12 ring of the deer perfectly. I noticed it with my binos and I made mention of it and Nate said, now comon, be nice....;) I tried for it and Brian said that when I shot, his arrow bounced slightly, I just missed cutting it in half when I shot a 12 on the deer behind it. :D [8D] |
RE: When Arrows Meet Diamond Plated Steel!
Rob, Actually I do have some I need to send on aKami Kazi trip:DI've beenlooking at a dozen of the Aramids thinking boy those would sure shoot nice out of my Airborne 82, but I haven't got the heart to fletch them up yet.
Too many other arrows that need shot;) IfI shot with you guys it would eliminate that problem I have I am sure. Dan |
RE: When Arrows Meet Diamond Plated Steel!
Looks fun & expensive, if you hit the diamond plate.;)
|
RE: When Arrows Meet Diamond Plated Steel!
Dan, LOL, that's the only wounded one I have, expensive yes but I still have over 20 ACC's.:D
Wolf Killer, the steel plate was optional but you know how it goes..LOL |
RE: When Arrows Meet Diamond Plated Steel!
ORIGINAL: Rob/PA Bowyer Dan, LOL, that's the only wounded one I have, expensive yes but I still have over 20 ACC's.:D Dan |
RE: When Arrows Meet Diamond Plated Steel!
Rob you say you have to travel 40 minutes to the shoot. Don't suppose the bulk of that 40 minutes is heading west?
Maybe Buckeye and I car-pool over. You guys can shoot it out and talk trash about the "3d Rookie". :D |
RE: When Arrows Meet Diamond Plated Steel!
Man, I wish I wasn't working so much on the weekends, I really wanna get out and shoot with you guys. And next week is out again for me. Right now I have nothing planned for the 2nd of March. Maybe I can make it then. That is if you guys don't mind have a stickbow shooter shoot with you[8D] Sorry Im in Traditional mode right now getting ready for the State Indoor Championships the first weekend in April.
|
RE: When Arrows Meet Diamond Plated Steel!
ORIGINAL: Sliverflicker That sure is pretty you going to put that in a pot? So you lost a 15.00 arrow on a 5.00 bet . Sounds like you all had a good time, thanks for sharing the pics with us.
|
RE: When Arrows Meet Diamond Plated Steel!
Rob, at the outdoor shoot I go to every year they have a standing steelbear with a 3" hole in the 10 spot and its usally around 28 to 40 yrds out depending if they put it up hill or down hill or flat land, its a challange shot at the endand it gets everyone watching....Its a good way to humble ones self....
|
RE: When Arrows Meet Diamond Plated Steel!
that could get expensive fast
|
RE: When Arrows Meet Diamond Plated Steel!
Where are you guys shooting? If it's not too much of a hike I might have to meet up with you some time. Looks like a lot of fun.
|
RE: When Arrows Meet Diamond Plated Steel!
That's neat and it sounds like a great time!
|
RE: When Arrows Meet Diamond Plated Steel!
GR8, unfortunately it's south so your not any closer but if you guys are willing to make the run, I can always lodge you if ya'll want to come the night before.
Chad, You can shoot the stick bow all you want, I'd be impressed depending. ;) [8D] Next Sunday is out anyway, I work too but March 2nd sounds like a winner! Outdoor shoots are starting to happen too, if the weather is good. Gundeck, lol I know, I know but as guys, it wasn't about the $...LOL ranger, I can imagine. I think I'd have to set up a chair and cooler on that hole...LOL 125py, not if you don't let it, now my buddy Nate, he just had to take a second shot and yup, blew up arrow number two. [&:] HuntingBry, I understand I just missed you in Harrisburg that last Sat. Steve said you were by the booth and I must have been shooting or wondering witht he wife. That indoor is in Catawissa, not far off I80. BrentH, lots of fun had by all, thanks. |
RE: When Arrows Meet Diamond Plated Steel!
