RE: Best ALL aluminum arrow.....

mobow, you might be onto something here. I'm curious, what would be the proper 78 for a 70lb Ally at 27"draw shooting a 27 5/8" arrow with 100g head? What about those CXs you're unloading? I think I would need 250s not 350s no?

I was originally thinking the 2413, but like I said, I think they are a bit weak, and the 2512's are perfect and damn near the same weight.
I think you've made you decision. Your where you want to be just have extra's, your going to crease and bend some. ;)

No, you'll want the 350's.....I tried the 250's @ 28".....much too weak.

Yeah, I'm learning the advantages of shooting different spots....I've robinhooded enough damn CX arrows to buy a dozen aluminums...But man, it sure is NEAT!!

I'm still exploring and open though.....hey, does anyone else even make aluminum arrows?

And, I know a guy, we can make more....;)

How short can you go on your arrows mo? At 27.5 OT@ says they spine acceptable

2413's that is.

mobow 02-08-2008 09:08 PM

RE: Best ALL aluminum arrow.....

I could go that short, but it would be pushing the issue.....I don't really want to, especially w/ a broadhead on the end of that stick..

And, a longer arrow is more stable.

250s will work just fine. I shot them 2 seasons ago at 70 lbs 26" draw and 27" arrows and they tuned very nice. At a short draw it will stiffen the arrow more. That and a 26" draw was busting out a whoping 284fps. They might not be as good for you with that extra inch.

2512's are fine too...That screenshot was at 65% letoff so its off a little but not enough to make a difference.

Good discussion guys...good discussion. Guess I'll see what we have in stock in the morning. If I can unload some "dead" inventory, I'll get it even cheaper. Which is why I wanted a few different options.

Thanks all.....if anyone has anything else, jump on in....I'm all ears, or.....eyes, as it were.

I have not hunted with anything but aluminum arrows.

I used 2315s with 100gr BHs for my 80+ lb bows (31" draw). The arrows went 275 fps and had a ton of KE.

Currently I shoot 65 lb bows and use 2413s with 85 gr BHs @ 275 fps. Still very good KE. The lighter BH helps the arrow act stiffer and aids in penetration.

The 2315 was one of the most versatile and durable arrows I've ever used.

Good luck.

Note the bold type........... I'm very fond of ACC's, they are one of the best arrows ever made. I've used them for 3-d as well as outdoor NFAA, it's just that I love my Golden premier arrow rests and big aluminums give me the best fletch clearance for hunting arrows. I'm not concerned with speed because I don't want my hunting arrows going over 275 fps. With todays bows, that is easily obtainable. Another thing is that 99% of all my shots at deer have been 22 yards or less. Aluminum works just great for that! ;)

I'm just a recurve guy but the XX75 2216's have never ever let me down! I stump shoot with them, shooting at rabbits, squirrels, you name it! There very durable for me and thats what matters in my book!

X-7's are the best all Aluminum arrow;)

Dan
I tend to agree w/ this statement, I havea dozen made up for 3D shooting this year. But from what I understand, they aren't a good hunting arrow because they are quite brittle. I wish they made pin nocks for X7's...they make them for X10's.....but not the 7....does anyone know if they are interchangeable?

MeanV2 02-09-2008 07:38 PM

RE: Best ALL aluminum arrow.....

The biggest majority of the animals I have killed with Aluminum arrows were killed with X-7's Sorry I didn't know they were too brittle;)

I still have some X-7's fletched with feathers. They might go Turkey hunting this Spring:D

There not brittle, someone's pulling your leg (Carbon Nut). I'm not knocking down carbons but my family's been shooting XX75's forever and ever. They've been used on moose, elk, bear, muley's, whitetails, caribou, you name it. I'm big on durable arrows and if they weren't durable I wouldn't be shooting them now.

RE: Best ALL aluminum arrow.....

I just never heard it:DThey have a tensile strength of 105,000 psi same alloy as the Super Slam 7178-T9 I guess if brittle means they will more than likely break before they bend then that might be true. I always thought the Black was Kewl:D

My X-7 2114's are pretty tough I can testify to that.;)

mobow wasn't trying to be sarcastic, just never heard that. I just wondered why?? Unless it is because they have a higher tensile strength. Personally I would just as soon my Aluminum arrows break as bend.

Dan

Yes,that is exactly what it means,I have HEARD there is a quenching process that makes them brittle but locks them in on the straightness.I would prefer to have a little give in an arrow I would slam through deer but that is just me,much easier to straighten a bent arrow than fix a broken one.:D

I have several X7's here that are cracked and I have never seen a cracked 78 so I believe there is truth to it.

RE: Best ALL aluminum arrow.....

Here are a couple I TRIED for 3-d,they didn't like the abuse.

Not saying they won't work for hunting,I just feel the 78's are a better choice.

MeanV2 02-10-2008 10:49 AM

RE: Best ALL aluminum arrow.....

I hunted with X-7's before they made the 78's. For one reason they were the best spec wise Aluminum out there. I hunt primarily with carbons, ACC's, or FMJ's now but still do have some X-7's around. I have no idea how many animals I've dropped with X-7's but over 30 I am sure. Most were in the dirt after going through the animal. I am sure if one stayed in a Deer and he crashed it into a tree as he ran it would break, but then so would most other arrows. I think Easton made the XX78'sspec wise very close tothe X-7 and added Camo to catch the Bowhunters eye. They are even closer in specs this year than ever. I think most of the 78's I have seen fail Broke instead of bent also. That's the way I would prefer it. Both are undoubtedly top of the line Aluminum arrows.

To me crashing arrows together in 3D is more abuse on arrows than hunting;)

RE: Best ALL aluminum arrow.....

Yes,I agree that 3-d is harder on arrows than hunting, atleast for the most part.I also agree they are both top of the line. You just need to treat the X7's like they are carbons and check for cracks,I have a couple that I couldn't get a clear picture of the cracks because they were so small. That CAN be dangerous.

I also usually use ACC's but I am going to be shooting some aluminums if I get to hunt turkeys this year.I would rather lose an aluminum in the grass than an ACC for some reason.[:-]
