I need ya'lls opinion on this.
I found a spot couple months ago, bout half the size of a basket ball court. it's perty thick in there early season. it's about 35-40yds from the edge of a 2 year old clear-cut, and on a small ridge. I found over 20 rubs in there, some droppins, but not that many, and no scrapes. however, there were a few scrapes about 75-100 yds from this area, 15-20yds from the edge of the clearcut. I'm tryin to find out if this is a beddin area, or a stagin area, so I'll kinda no how, where, and when to hunt it next season.
if you were to guess, what do you think it is, beddin or stagin area?

I'd guess a staging area. Is there some thick cover other than the small (1/2 basketball court) one within a few hundred hards? What type of trees? Any oaks?
Around my area deer will bed down in thick cover that small if theres no other larger cover relatively close to their feeding area. The best thing to do now would be go into the area to see if they're bedding in there.

bowfanatic, I also think it's a stagin area. yes, there's about a 5 year old clear cut(very thick) about 150yds from this little ridge. the deer are no longer in this small area. could be I scared them out of there (if they were beddin in there) the first month of season.
I done a lot of walkin right down the edge of the clear-cut to get to the corner, where i had a stand.
I'm thinkin maybe they come from that old clear-cut, to this little ridge to feed, till dark. then maybe they hit the new clear-cut.
yes, there are whiteoaks in there.
I think I'll go in there now, and find the main trail there usin to get from the old clear-cut, to this little ridge, where all the rubs are. they have to cross a creek to get there, so if I can find their main crossin, that would be a good stand site.
I know they will bed down in those small thickets, I've jumped them up a few times before. but in this particular place, I think your right about it being a stagin area.
