The wrong black bear mount
#1
I shot a 300 pounder in 2006 in Quebec (with my Hoyt). Got the half life size mount back and it looks like an over grown black squirrel coming out of my wall. It can't be 125 pounds....What do you do????
Facial characteristics are way off...can't determine anything from the claws....no way is the form too small....I will be marking my claws in 2008...
Again - What would you do??

I don't know but you and steve are really freakin' me out. My black bear rug should be done soon. I hope I get it back, and it's the right size!
I'd maybe question the taxi, if you haven't.

HAD BEAR THAT SQUAREDA HONEST 5'11" 1/2 LIFE SIZED BY FRIEND , HE WAS going to taxidermy schoolin PA. got the mount well done but looks tiny. same white chest patch... same bear. i'm no taxidermist but i feel it was just not wetted properly and stretched as it should have been. i get kidded when friends see it for shooting a baby bear.

Scott is his name. His shop is located in Coon Rapids, actually. He is a great guy and a friend of the family, he owns a cabin by ours in Aitkin. For the LIFE of me, I can't remember his last name, but I'm pretty sure it's Scott's Taxidermy. I'll PM you tomorrow with details, I'll get them.

A lot of times the taxi will cut out the thinner hair on the underside of the bear. Thus the hide is smaller and it ends up looking like a different bear. This is one of the main reasons I would never do a half size mount on a bear.....that and if its made to look ferocious, its not real. Blackies are not a ferocious animal.
