The finest eatin' critter is?
Prepared exactly the way you like it, and it is your last supper. Which do you choose?
Tough call between wild pig and elk, gotta go elk. |
RE: The finest eatin' critter is?
They're all "technically" "venison";)
Prepared the way I do it (or anyone who knows what they're doing)......Pork is AWFULLY tough to beat. These were cooked on indirect heat for +/-12hrs. |
RE: The finest eatin' critter is?
I'm pretty sure Deer, Elk, and Moose are all considered venison. Caribou and Antelope might be included under that as well...not positive though.

RE: The finest eatin' critter is?
Something tells me I'll get a little flack for this one but, believe it or not, black bear, well cared for and prepared right is really tasty

RE: The finest eatin' critter is?
I changed my answer to bear, elk is very good but like Roskoe said a hot rutted up bull is only good for sausage!!
|
RE: The finest eatin' critter is?
i love deer
|
RE: The finest eatin' critter is?
The elk I shot was incredible, it's hard to imagine a better "wild" animal but I haven't eaten moose and I hear it's better. I voted elk of the ones I've had off that list.
|
RE: The finest eatin' critter is?
Elk got my vote, also like Bear De boned, as far as small game goes, I will take the grouse.
|
RE: The finest eatin' critter is?
Bison would have had my vote...but......guess I'll say moose.
|
RE: The finest eatin' critter is?
Deer meat medium rare off the grill is pretty hard to beat. Wild boar runs a close second. My .02
|
RE: The finest eatin' critter is?
I eat a lot of deer meat, but a pheasant is hard to beat.
|
RE: The finest eatin' critter is?
I recently had a small sample of elk it was the best stuff i have ever ate.
|
RE: The finest eatin' critter is?
No doubt...Squirrel, par boiled, fried up, with gravy, mashed potaotes and biscuits...Rest don't come close...
|
RE: The finest eatin' critter is?
Fried Rabbit!
big rockpile |
RE: The finest eatin' critter is?
bbq duck on the grill and fried Rabbit.
after that comes cajun fried turkey, thensmoked venison. |
RE: The finest eatin' critter is?
Boy that is a tough one, I love venison. But I had the pleasure of eating elk and moose, both were unbelievably good. I also got to eat alot of wild hog down in Texas. Cooked right it is very delicous. I think it was almost as much fun eating it as it was hunting it.
|
RE: The finest eatin' critter is?
By far Caribou. And I've eaten a lot of wild game.
Black bear is a second, but no where near 'bou! |
RE: The finest eatin' critter is?
I voted Elk:DI really can't imagine anyone voting for Venison over Elk, but I guess everyone's tastes vary[8D]

RE: The finest eatin' critter is?
my vote goes for the florida special. a diversified plate of dove, squirrel and snipe. a small game party in my mouth.
|
RE: The finest eatin' critter is?
Another vote for bison. Antelope can vary from being nearly inedible to really good. Mule deer about the same. Whitetail seem consistently better than mule deer. And elk is generally pretty good, although a big old rutting bull is usually a "sausage special". But for my taste buds, it's bison - well seasoned in a garlic based marinade.
|
RE: The finest eatin' critter is?
While elk is up there, it's just not as good as moose, imho. The wife would vote for moose too.

RE: The finest eatin' critter is?
Venison all the way you can't beat it!;)
|
RE: The finest eatin' critter is?
rabbit,rabbit, rabbit....
|
RE: The finest eatin' critter is?
The elk i shot last year was pretty tasty. I'd say elk 1st with venison running a close 2nd. Fried rabbit or squirrel rank pretty high with me also though along with pheasant
|
RE: The finest eatin' critter is?
Quail..........By far.
|
RE: The finest eatin' critter is?
Pheasant first, elk second and venison third, but they are all close (and yummy! :))
|
RE: The finest eatin' critter is?
I have never had moose so...
Elk is #1, caribou #2 (tastes like a mix between elk and deer to me), deer#3. I am surprized by the "rutting bull elk is good only for sausage". I've never had that experience at all. |
RE: The finest eatin' critter is?
If everyone that had voted on this poll had eaten everything listed it is highly doubtful that Venison (Deer) would be in the lead;)
Hard to know somethings better if you have not tried it![8D] Dan |
RE: The finest eatin' critter is?
Best of all was not in the poll - Dall sheep.
Deer, moose then Caribou round out my top 4. The cook is what makes the most difference. Gerry |

RE: The finest eatin' critter is?
I have been blessed to have eaten everything on the list except coon and Favre"s shorts so my humble opinion is cowMoose by a very slim margin over cow Elk>

RE: The finest eatin' critter is?
1.Caribou
2.Moose 3.Elk 4.Farm Land Whitetails |
RE: The finest eatin' critter is?
1.) Chicken
2.) Chicken 3.) Chicken Eating dead wild animals is fun, but it just doesn't compare to a steaming pile of chickens. If chickens are Jewish, I'm theAdolf Hitler of poultry. You figure, a dozen full wings...that's six little chickens every wingnight-a mini holocaust every weekend. 6 x 52 = 312 of Perdue's finest feathered friends, right down the hatch annually. Genocide. Delicious Genocide. And that's just wings. I put chicken on pizza. Chicken in chili. Chicken on the grill. Chicken in soup. Chicken baked. Chicken braised. Chicken broiled. Chicken breaded. It's the ultimate foodsource. You can make it fat. You can make it healthy. Chicken can be formal. Chicken can party if it needs to. ![]() |
RE: The finest eatin' critter is?
1 Deer
2 Elk 3 Pig 4 Caribou 5 Moose 6 Bear 7 Turkey They are all very good, if prepared right! I've never had Antelope, so I don't know! I have had Alligator though, and it is very tasty!! |
RE: The finest eatin' critter is?
I have had lots of whitetail, many squirrels, dove, wild turkey, duck, a small sample of 'dilla (tastes like chicken), B-B-Q goat (very good). But the BEST I have eaten was a dam building Beaver!!!!!! Put chunks of beaver in crockpot with onions and potatoes, little salt and pepper..WOW!!!!!! Beats beef hands down!
