Looks to be a 3.5 year old to me! Big bodied deer! I would definitely wait on him a year or 2 if it was me. If he's to your liking let the arrow fly, its all up to the individual.

To me it looks tricky. They look like the same deer.....just photos of him a year apart.

Looks like the same year to me. His hair is sticking up in the second pic and makes him look different.

I was not really asking if I should shoot him..............I already know the answer to that...........the reason for this post was to show how many conflicting opinions we all have on aging deer on the hoof..........these pictures were taken from video footage i shot of this buck in the second week of Nov. this year. To look at his body proportions I would swear he is 3.5 (which most of you consider mature) but to look at his antlers I would swear he's only 2.5 (I hunt in southern wi. our genetics and nutrition allow for 170" 4 and 5 year olds) Here is another buck that came in later that same day........what would you guess his age at by looking at his body proportions?

I would say 2.5 yrs.

His nose is a dead give-away to a 2.5 yr. old deer.. it's longer than an older deer. Notice the "beady" eyes which appear so large on the face. Again all signs of a 2.5 yr. old.

He does have a huge body for his age.. but neck is quite normal for a deer with high testosterone. I have a 2.5 yr. deer with a neck who would contend with any 4.5 yr. old.

I believe your assumption lungbuster on him being a 2.5 yr. old are absolutely correct.

His hair sticking up makes the deer look fatter, LOL I would guess 1.5 or a weak 2.5 IMO

(which most of you consider mature) but to look at his antlers I would swear he's only 2.5 (I hunt in southern wi. our genetics and nutrition allow for 170" 4 and 5 year olds
1.5 80-90
2.5 110-120
3.5 140-150
4.5 170-180
