Granted, there are some 3.5yo that will have bigger racks and body size than some 4.5yo but IMO, there is SIGNIFICANT difference in a 4.5yo vs 3.5yo in the "woods savvy" of the two.

I suspect there are more 4.5+yo old deer in all regions than we realize, we just don't see them very often because of this.

I keep seeing the line "3.5 is an old deer here", wellof coursethey won't get any older than that if you shoot them first! For those hunting on public land, you generally have totake what you get, but those hunting private landhave the power to greatly increase the age structure ofthe bucks on your landby not shooting bucks 3.5 years and younger. I guess it all depends on how big you want the rack to be before you harvest them. I have shotseveral bucksin my days of hunting that I look at the rack nowandthink what a nice deer it would have been the next year. Letting a really nice, but not yet fully mature 3.5 y/o deer walk is a very hard task indeed.

I will still stick with 4.5,I think you can see a difference between a 3.5 and a 4.5 the way they acted. You just don't seem to see a 4.5 make the mistakes a 3.5 will.. But I also think it's makes a big differece where you are at, here in Michigan a 3.5 is equal to a 5.5 in other states because he has seen and avoid twice as many hunters in them 3.5 years than a 5.5 in other states. Nobody's saying that a 3.5 yr old is at his "PEAK". We're (the majority) saying he's beginning to be "mature" at that age.

I have no idea of when he reaches "Peak" "maturity".....but I (and the majority) feel he's at least beginning to be worthy of the "mature" monniker at 3.5yrs.
5.5-6.5 is the consesus IMO
