How many use lock-ons?
I'm trying to gather some data on what % of hunters use lock-ons. I personally have 3 and use a climber as well.
|
RE: How many use lock-ons?
I have 10 hang ons. Its all I have used.
|
RE: How many use lock-ons?
I have 2 loc-ons but do not use them very much. I have 3 buckshot big shot portables and they go everywhere I do. I love the idea behind a loc-on but I move to much. Imay hunt the same general area for a week but from 10 diffreent trees.
|
RE: How many use lock-ons?
I use my climbers almost exclusively. I have a couple of loc ons up but I always seem to want to be somewhere else. I love using the hang ons because its so nice to just walk in and climb and be done rather than humping it up the tree with a climber. I hunt like 4 different spots but am always sitting in different trees so the deer have a harder time pinning me down.

RE: How many use lock-ons?
I have two lock-ons in the woods and then use the climber to get to those "hard to reach" spots or when I find the deer changing patterns.
|
RE: How many use lock-ons?
I prefer ladder stands. Lock-Ons don't offer enough room for me, nor, do I want to drill spikes in my trees to get up 15'. Although ladder stands are nortorios for squeaking when climbed and standing up during taking a shot Lock-Ons will eliminate that. It's a 50/50 decision.

RE: How many use lock-ons?
For the moment I use lockons exclusively but will be adding another climber next season. I will still most likely use my Lone Wolf climbing sticks and LW Assault when moving around though.

RE: How many use lock-ons?
I have a climber and a ladder stand, and about 8 lock ons.
This year I bought the Millenium hang on....that thing is IT! It is awesome, and I highly recommend it. Most comfortable lock on by far - you can sit ALL day if you want w/o getting tired or sore. It has aBIG platform, is completely quietand rock solid, and fairly light (14lbs). I don't need to buy another stand now, I'm set. For a $20 bracket, and a $30 climbing stick....I can have another set. Next year with what I have now, I'll have over 20 sets :D |
RE: How many use lock-ons?
I have 8 hang ons.

RE: How many use lock-ons?
I've got 4 hang-ons, a climber (hardly use it), a couple of ladder stands up on private land (year round) as well as a gun stand built into a group of trees that's been there for about 15 years now.....that reminds me, I need to rebuild that sucker again this summer.

RE: How many use lock-ons?
I have 2 hang-ons one ladder and many permanent wood built stands.
|
RE: How many use lock-ons?
All I use are lock on's I have about a dozen of them.
|
RE: How many use lock-ons?
I use lock ons as permanent locations as well as mobile locations.
I like the fact that I can put a lock on up as qick or almost as quick as aclimber but not limited to the tree I am able to hunt. Like this tree, the best tree in the funnel,If I were using a climber,I would have had to set up directly over the main trail or 40 yards off it. ![]() |

ORIGINAL: DropTine249 For your complacent hunter, hang ons are great. For your aggressive and skilled hunter, climbers are worth their wieght in gold. With a climber, you have the option of moving, or changing location at the last second. Youcan "follow" the deer if needed. With a hang on, even if you scouted an area hard, sometimes things change and that stand becomes useless. I use ladders, hang ons & climbers, but I think my climber is my most valuable tool. |

Exactly what I was thinking,I can hangmy lone wolf in about 15 minutes if I have too.I generally take my time because I am in early enough not to hurry and I can take it down quicker. |
RE: How many use lock-ons?
I just bought 2 River's Edge lock-ons today at Gander and will use them to replace a couple lock-ons that are getting a little too old.

RE: How many use lock-ons?
I love lock ons. I like how u dont have to move them and they are quite. I also love how they dont stick off the tree at the bottom to much. But i also love climber becuase if i have not seen nothin in my stand and want to move to a place i have not seen then i like to get the climber out, put it on my back and go.

RE: How many use lock-ons?
Have one of all plus built-in stands on property. When I go someplace new, always take the climber to re-locate quickly if needed.
