If my neighbor was killing does like crazy and I knew I had plenty on my land that had no reason to leave I would be happy as can be............all he is doing is raising bucks that are headed your way.


Eliminating does is a huge mistake IMO.........not needed and actually counter productive to hunting management.


Again JMO.......based on what I have seen first hand........but still just an opinion.

You know, Charlie....I also hunt with a good friend in VA (been4 times, hunting.....and several times helping out....for work details).....where he is partners in 2 leases. One is 1,600 acres......the other is 1,900. They adjoin 9these properties)and are separated by a mountain ridgeline. One side plants food plots, practicesQDM,has self-imposed AR's and gets the DMAP permits to take extra does. The other side/lease just "hunts". it's about as close to a real-life scenario of the situation you depicted as you're gonna get (and at least this one is real). I have also hunted with friends at their respective leases.

If you're looking for a reason to discount my posts......you can surely do that. But hell....let's make **** up. Who cares about something real? Let's pretend!

I agree with Atlasman on this issue... Of course each location is different.... But our state has been HAMMERING does for going on 10+ years now......I've seen no improvement on my properties... In fact, the quality of bucks has decreased in some areas that used to be over run with does!

Maybe in nothern climates you have competition for food, but in the south, that is a BS line to get you to buy into the herd reduction program.....

Hell, I've got 15 acres of wheat, peas, and clover that is a foot tall b/c the deer can't eat it all! The ground is covered in acorns over my entire 400 acres b/c there aren't enough deer eat them!

This doe killing business can get out of hand really quick!

There is a huge differnce between managing a herd and eliminating one.
If charlies neighbor is following QDMA, he is not eliminatingdoes, he's managing them.

I think we are talking about a neighbor who is a QDM'er, is this correct?

HEy DC.....I'll go out in the woods whereI hunt this weekend and take some photos. The browse line is non-existent to 6'. It has been for a while. I live in an area that holds a LOT of deer.

I live in the south (NC)....and our winters are extremely mild. But I STILL worry about what they're eating. I also feel a "little" better knowing there are (____) less mouths to feed....because of my hunting season. Whether my hunting knocks a dent in the problem or not......heck I don't know.

You could be 100% (you and Atlas) correct. I don't know.

Charlie....my "hunting situation" involved 6 properties....not including the land I call my "hunting area". It also involved 3 states. Never assume you know everything about me. I plan to hunt 5 states in '08.;)

Yes we are Germ, isn't working on herd reduction already has his buck todoe ratio inline.

I would think that the non dominate bucks especially would really start roaming,to find easier pickings of does.

Like I said, each location is different and there are absolutely some areas that have a problem, no doubt about it and yours obviously does considering the amount of does you killed this year! It's the statewide, region wide, country wide, stance that does have to be hammered that gets under my skin....

I've seen it ruin some very good spots of mine... You give a red neck 5 doe tags and by god he will fill them! :D
