What hasn't happened to you yet?

What are some of the things that you haven't experienced while hunting. Those things that you always read about or see but have never had first hand experience with in the woods. For me I've never had or even presented with an opportunity if I needed/wanted one a second shot at a deer with my bow. I've heard tons of stories over the years about shooting a second arrow at a deer. I sit in my stand and wonder how the heck that happens [8D]. Every deer I've shot in my 20 years with a bow would not have given me a second opportunity.

I have never seen true rutting activity......this ismy first full year hunting, was out the whole rut period and neversaw any kind of activity. I saw more than enough deer during this time but no chasing, grunting, sparing...etc

I haven't seen a deer making a rub.

I've seen most everything else I read about. I "heard" one making a rub, in PA....but didn't see it.

I've also never seen a deer in NC in the wild that would go over 106". I'd like to see a big deer in the wild.

I've gotten second shots, actually killed one with a second shot once, first deer I ever shot with my bow just stood there after jumping, then walked off blood pouring out.

Never seen a deer duck an arrow
Never seen a fight (heard one once and convinced me I don't make enough noise rattling)
Never seen one scrape or rub
Never seen a buck in velvet except during summer
Never gotten a shot off at a monster, had two chances, one a squek from my boot saved him the other his 6th sense did the job, to this day I don't know how he knew I was there.

To have a mature big buck that I get pictures of walking my way with plenty of shooting light left! Sooner or later it will happen but every year I settle for less late in the season I see the bucks either to late or out of range![:@]

i feel the same as you, but i just found out it supposedly can happen.

A guy i work for is also a nusiance trapper. He lives in Edmonson County one county away and he got a call about a mountain lion (in ky) so he thought it was a joke.Somebodywent over to the ladies house to find a dead dog, another with a limb torn off, and the lady had scratches on her. apparently the lion came in over the fence and when it attacked the dogs the dumb*** lady ran outside and tried to beat it off with a baseball bat. after doing some more inverstigating he found out about a guy who was supposedly raising a pair of them behind his house, but recently turned em loose for fear of being caught.

i still dont know whether to believe this one or not, seems EXTREMELY far fetched but this guy hasnt ever lied that i know of. i guess ill believe him when he actually catches one of these pet cougars though.

So i guess my answer is never seen a cougar while hunting.[8D]

RE: What hasn't happened to you yet?

Reading over this I think I'm pretty fortunate. This year I shot a 150 class deer. So that takes care of some things.
Rubs and scrapes all over my hunting area. I saw a nice buck 3 years ago (Bigger than the one I shot this year) make a scrape and a rub. Had him at 12 yards just not where I could draw my selfbow.

Heard them grunt. Actually had one grunt Sunday while I had my daughter out for late muzzle loader season. He and two does came right in to us and I knew he was there. She couldn't get the saftey off or I'd post a pic.

Never seen a two bucks fight. That would be cool. I've rattled them in though.

Had a bobcat hunting me one time. I had a turkey call I used as I eased up a trail hoping to sound like a turkey instead of a human. Aparenty it worked at 20 yards he lit out of there like his tail was on fire.

Had a Coyote at 12 yards last year my last day bowhunting (Jan) Came in so fast I couldnt get ready.

Haven't see a buck mount a doe. See plenty of chasing though.

I've had deer right under my stand too. Had a young deer bed near me once. By near me I mean like 5 yards. I've had deer cross a creek with me only feet from them when they came to the other side. That was cool BTW. They didn't have a clue untill they were across.

Saw a bunch of piebald deer in VA/WV never hunitng at the time though. Saw a nice 6 point piebald. I was looking at him and almost missed the huge 10 point behind him.

OH and one of the coolest things was being about 5 feet (on the ground) from a big doe in realy cold weather. The sun wasjust coming over the trees. She had no clue I was there and never did. I could see iceonthe hairson her chin and the sun shined through the ice.Now thats close. I wish I had had a camera in my had that day.

So all and all I think I've been pretty lucky. I like getting out therefor those things. I love seeing animals act like they do when humans arent around.Somethingmost non hunters will never see.

RE: What hasn't happened to you yet?

First bow kill drew back and forgot to put my arrow on my rest at that time i was using just a fork tune rest and kept my arrow off to the side where it would not fall off and make any kind of noise. The buck was standing straight on to me at 20 yrds and i had to let the arrow back down he then jumped to the side and gave mea better shot but i had to get on him quik because at this point he was nervous but he was in full rut and looking for the doe he thought was there. I put my pin on him and let the arrow go he ran about 40 yrds and fell over the mathews and 100 grain vortex done the job. This one sided rack buck has a story behind him to from the week before my dad shot him in black powder season and hit him right in the left horn and knocked him out he came to as we were rolling him over. That was an unbelivable event if i had not been there i would not hardly belive it but my boy 4years old at the time can confess to it he was completly freaked out. Great memories for all of us.

Never got a deer with traditional gear - had a golden opportunity from the groundlast week, doe hunting the PA second seasonwith the recurve. As luck would have it, I had a doe at 7 yards, broadside, unaware and feeding. Unfortunately, it was an eight-point "doe." [>:] I admit it. I cussed. A lot. I mean seriously....what are the chances? $%&*#

Never seen a 150"+ whitetail from the stand.

Never killed a buck with a double-throat patch.

Never touched a live, wild, uninjured deer with my bare hands.

Never killed a buck with a true droptine.

Never found a shed over 50"

I missed a 9 pt. buck at 20 yds. once on public land, he stopped and then circled a little farther out and I double lunged him at 35 yds.

Haven't shot a Boone and Crocket buck......thats my dream.
Haven't shot a turkey, I plan on trying it this spring.

Some good ones on here.... I:

Haven't seen a piebald. Have seen a wild white buck, but on the road, not while hunting.
Haven't seen a cougar. Or a wolf. Or a bear. (while hunting) Would like to.
Haven't been ravaged by nymph. (while hunting) Would like to.
Haven't seen naked or breeding humans (while hunting). Would like to.
Haven't seen bucks fighting, but have heard it. Saw sparring once.
Haven't seen deer breeding, but saw mounting one time from the road.
Haven't shot a deer in the vitals, only to have it bleed like crazy for a long distance then lose it.
Only fell once, short distance, landed in deep snow on my back. It sucked a lot.
Haven't seen a moose, or elk, or bigfoot, or anything else that didn't belong in the system I was hunting. Would like to.
