Deerhunting I will trophy hunt only, until last day and then I lower my standards, When I elk hunt, I am not so choosey since I hunt public land.<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle> When it comes to fishing you guys back east would laugh at some of the dinkers people call fish around here, its all relative I guess on where you live, if you are hunting/fishing where you catch/bag a potential trophy than you search for it, as far as bagging a deer here its not difficult at all.Later on, Bobby

I sort of look at like this. From one side of it, I hunt because of the chase and the pride of downing an impressive animal. And on the other side of it.....when I sit down to a meal of venison, I think of the all the work that goes into being able to eat that meat. Months and months of shooting practice, hanging stands when it's 95 degrees and mosquitos are all over your face and hands, seemingly endless hours of sitting in a stand in all kinds of weather etc, etc.... A guy could go on and on. But when I'm eating and thinking about what all went into getting it, it just gets me more excited for the next time that I can get out and do it all over again. To me that's hunting for the thrill and also hunting for a meal.

i think a little of both. One of the things I learned in Germany was population control, so I hunt fox and squirrels, and coyotes to maintian the population, and soem copyotes make nice furs!

Taking the animal and turning it into a delicious meal is the bonus. But I'll always remember the hunt itself.

Yup, both. The only animal I hunt is whitetail. My goal every season is to try and arrow the most decent buck that the area holds. That is the challenging part. But I WILL NOT pass up a mature doe (unless a nice buck is following her!) for the dinner table.

If I can't find someway to make the meat taste good I won't hunt it. Just can't seem to get into coon hunting because I know I won't eat it. Don't like the taste or smell of rabbits so I don't hunt them although the few times I did I had fun. I guess this makes me a person that hunts for the meal but, lucky for me the most exciting hunting for me is also the best tasting in whitetail.
