RE: hunting rest
Hey Mauser... How's the Reflex Highlander doing? Your setup is pretty much identical to mine. :D
I still have my NAP Quiktune 1000 on it and it's fine. I though about a drop away or QAD rest, but, I don't know... I have this thing like "if it ain't broke don't fix it". |
RE: hunting rest
killed my first buck with it this year Butch..(sure you had to see it..)
i have no problems with the nap...other than i like to lay my bow on its side and in the heat of the moment, i forgot to put the arrow on the rest... probably going with the QAD when i get to it....we will see....definently gotta get the new rest and sights sometime soon...would like to get it done before spring so i can shoot all spring and get it all tuned up and ready to roll incase i cant shoot this summer if i go out of state to work for the summer...really figuring on throwing my bow in the truck and taking it with me if im close to a town... |
RE: hunting rest
If you're looking for an idiot proof rest, the Hostage is a must have. All the benefits of the Whisker Biscuit without all the fletching contact. I've been a die hard drop away fan for several years, but I'm considering a switch to the Hostage this year.

RE: hunting rest
ORIGINAL: live2Draw vital gear Kaz away for the Win. Unbelievable containment and very quiet. you could hold your bow upside down and the arrow wouldnt even move. all my proshop guys swear by em and I am a believer too! |
RE: hunting rest
mauser, i use the WB and like it but thats just me :DNow about laying that bow across the viper rail :eek:trust me your eventually going to bump it and send it to terra firma. get a summit bow holder that fits on the top rail, it keeps the bow in the ready position and its good insurance you wont drop the bow ;)
ORIGINAL: mauser06 i am going to be in the market for a new rest for my 06 Reflex Highlander. the bow is used for hunting and nothing more. i shoot more targets and 3d rounds than alot of pure hunters, but its all FOR hunting and i dont switch out anything for target or hunting purposes. right now i have a nap 1000 prong rest on it. works fine...but it aint idiot proof. i know i want a containment rest...only makes sense on a hunting bow. i like to nock an arrow and lay my bow across my summit viper...missed a chance at a shot at a nice buck this season because of that..never put the arrow on the rest. ended up hitting full draw and watching my arrow pop off the string... really thinking about a QAD LD or HD..i dont mind the price tag...IF its worth paying for. my biggest thing is having something fail...i know i know a WB cant really fail...i just dont like WBs...too much contact for too long for me... what do you guys recommend?? really thinking about ordering my Viper sites and rest here shortly...going to put another couple days in at work over break and have a decint(for me) income tax return coming soon...would like to get the bow all rigged up by spring so i can get er dialed in and tuned up good... thanx |

Second, if you are shooting with anything more than a slight offset (4 deg.) on your vanes then either the front edge or the trailing edge of the vane will make contact with the bristles depending on how you orientate it on the rest. Third, it's made of a fairly strong but still a "plastic type" material. The mounting arm (the extension piece that goes from theriser bracket to the rest head)on mine was slightly bent, from themolding process nodoubt. I was still able to tune it and itworked finebut it's no way near the quality of the Whisker Biscuit. The Biscuitis all aluminum and a far sturdier rest (IMO). I bought one to check it out and do some testing on it. It's a pretty good rest but I ended up giving it away on one of my "late night giveaways" I would take the Whisker Biscuit over the Hostage any day of the week and twice on Sundays.:D |
RE: hunting rest
I have used a QAD Ultra Rest for the last 3 years with good sucess for hunting and 3 D shooting.

RE: hunting rest
Another vote for the QAD rests. I use the Hunter model and have no problems at all. Works great.
Ive used the whisker biscuit and NAP Quicktune 2000 dropaway in the past. I like the QAD better. |

It seems durable enough, but plastic is plastic and it has a tendancy to break at the most inopportune times. |
