RE: s&w knife VS Remington knife
ORIGINAL: silentArcher Is the Buck model 110 a good knife? i've been wanting to get another knife. |
RE: s&w knife VS Remington knife
ORIGINAL: Killer_Primate S&W is know for their guns, not their knives. It is all about the steel. First pick a style knife you like to use. For me, it is a drop point blade, 3 to 4 inches long. Then pick a steel that you like. For instance; I am an okay knife sharpener. Probably better at it than a lot of people who never try it, but I don’t have a natural skill to get a bunch of different steels razor sharp. However, I have found that I can sharpen D2, and VG10 pretty well, and they keep a pretty good edge. My newest knife for this year is a Fallkniven F1. It is the Swedish special forces survival knife and it has a full tang, drop point, laminated VG10 with a Rockwell rating of 59. It costs a little over $100, but is a great fixed blade knife. Stop messing around with crap and get yourself a good knife, you’ll be glad that you did. KP |
RE: s&w knife VS Remington knife
I WILL TRY THAT
ORIGINAL: grneyemonstr I have the same remington knife you are talking about and i used this year to gut a deer. It went through the deer like a hot knife through butter. i had to use very little pressure to open the gut. Maybe you should contact remington and tell them your problem maybe they will send you a new one. |
RE: s&w knife VS Remington knife
I ruffly have the same Rem knife, mines about 8-9 yrs old and still going strong,it's the only one I take out with me while bow hunting/in the woods.........
I have nothing bad to say about mine,I think I paid around 50-60 bucks for mine tho.. |
RE: s&w knife VS Remington knife
I had the same remington bought for me as a gift and it never hit the woods. Not all cheap knives are crap. I bought a schrade sharpfinger yrs ago and it was the best darn knifeI've ever owned $30CDN, lost it and bought another....... except this time it was made in China........ CRAP. Anyone know where I can get and older sharpfinger??????

RE: s&w knife VS Remington knife
I don't know where to get an older Sharpfinger, but I do know where you can get a similar size and shape blade, but in cryogenically treated 440C stainless insteadof carbon steel. Just put on your own handle and make a sheath for it.Knifemaker's Supply: www.texasknife.com
They call it the Vented Skinner Edit: That's TEXAS Knifemaker's Supply. The ol' brain called in sick today. LOL [&:]:D |
RE: s&w knife VS Remington knife
Thanx Arthur P, I saved that sight and already have a handle kicken around for the project. A pc of antler I found from a buck that was hit by a big rig. Antler was all smashed up and the largest pc is perfect for a knife handle. And I just got a winchester knife for christmas.... seems ok to me but we'll see.
