Whitetail season unexpectedly ended
First off, I hope everyone had a safe and Merry Christmas. With NewYears around the corner I wish the same for all, be safe and enjoy.
Well as of Christmas day my Whitetail season ended. My 4 year old son Tyson had a sledding accident and ended up break his foot ina coupleplaces, two bones and crushing one end of a metatarsal. I was scheduled and fully packed and ready to leave for ND on the 26. I had to call my good bud Tim in ND and share the news with him about Tyson. My stuff is still all packed out in the car in the garage, the past few days with Tyson have been busy and he's been in a lot of pain. He's seen a specialist as of yesterday. We have to wait till Thursday for the swelling to go down and get his foot pinned and casted! Fun Fun Fun... Say a prayer for my little guy if you dont mind folks, I am most concerned about the growth plate that has been damaged. |

Sorry to hear of your son's accident. When they're that young, it's tough.

RE: Whitetail season unexpectedly ended
Wow!!! Sorry to hear that Troy, hope the little guy doesn't have any long term effects from the accident. Kids can heal up in a hurry, and hopefully he'll be as good as new.
We were sledding at my grandma's house a long time ago and my cousin ran into a tree. He had a pain in his side for a day or so, and my aunt took him to the doc. He had ruptured his spleen and needed emergency surgery to remove it. He ended up fine tho. Prayers sent for a speedy recovery for Tyson. By the way, what are you doing up at this hour?? |
RE: Whitetail season unexpectedly ended

RE: Whitetail season unexpectedly ended
Dang, Troy!!
After having my son grab my lawnmower muffler (on a push mower) when my wife and I went to move his swing set so I could mow under it when he was only a couple years old (it was shiny, is all I can think of) and sustain third degree burns and almost need plastic surgery on his hand... I can fully empathize with you as a father seeing your son hurt and not being able to really do anything yourself about their pain... I know you, like me, would have it transferred to yourself in a heartbeat if it meant them not being hurt. Hope everything works out for him; like John and several others said, it truly is amazing how quick the young guys can heal up. |

RE: Whitetail season unexpectedly ended
I know what you are going through. I had both of my boys in casts at the same time with broken arms[:'(][:'(]!!! My 5 yr old broke both bones in his arm (did not know there was such a thing as a "bend" fracture). My 11 yr old broke his wrist and fractured his growth plate. The good news is that the growth plate heals VERY quick!!! The bone not so fast. Hang in there.....maybe something will shake out, and you can still make your trip! You have my prayers!!

RE: Whitetail season unexpectedly ended
Troy....man, sorry about the bad news! It really stinks when kids are just having fun and accidents occur. Such is the nature of life....but man, sledding is suppose to be FUN!
I broke a growth plate in my finger when I was younger.....so I know the added problems which may occur with this sugery and such. Prayers are sent. Just remember, God is my friend....he is in complete control! |
RE: Whitetail season unexpectedly ended
Boys will be boys, as they say... All the best, buddy - hopefully, everything will heal up nicely and he'll be back in action a.s.a.p. If he's anything like his old man, it will take more than a bum ankle to slow him down!

Shed33,
Sorry to hear about your son. It's amazing how those little bones can heal so fast. If it were me, I may be out next season also:D My son, a couple yrs ago stiffed armed the ground as he fell from his bike. His arm brokeright at the elbow, flipping his growth plate, his elbow looked like a knee[:'(]. They had to fix and pin it in 4 places to make sure the growth plate stayed lined up. Then cast after all the swelling went down. It didn't happen during deer season, but know what it's like. Prayers are sent for your son to heal proper and quick! That trip will be there next season! Best wishes! Crutch |

RE: Whitetail season unexpectedly ended
Sorry about the bump... but this is the first time I've had found time to get back in here and respond to this...
Guys I really appreciate the thoughts, prayers ....testement to the character the fine folks that we have here. Also thanks to those of you whom pm'd me about Tyson this week as well. I know there are a lot of folks on here that have been through much tougher and trying times this year. My thoughts are always with those folks everytime I see their name floating around the boards. Ty is feeling much much better as the doctor got a good control on the pain with the meds he gave him. As a matter of fact Ty is making it on about 1/2 the med dosage. I agree, he'll heal up fast and probably be just fine. The growth plate issue is out of my hands now, the damage is done and hopefullly it will all work out. His injury is a long way from his head and heart, and it could have been worse. I'm missing my trip to ND with Tim... but know I am were I should be and thats being a dad and husband first...whitetails..can wait till another season. Thanks again.. and Happy New Year my friends. |
RE: Whitetail season unexpectedly ended
sure sorry to here that. prayers sent.
